I went back and checked. That was an insane year for OU. If they had not lost to Oregon on that total bs ref call they would have been in contention for a spot in the title game.

That was also the same year Colt McCoy handed them their arse in the RRSO.

Then, after being snubbed in their BCS bowl game by getting matched up against Boise, they lost in one of the most famous upsets in history.

Very crazy season for them all started with that Oregon loss.

2000 season Miami Hurricanes lost to the Washington huskies. They finished 10-1 and did not play for the title. The canes won it in 01' and lost to the bucknuts on a phantom pass interference call in 02'. Should have been 3 straight years in the title game.

It would be tough to argue against LSU playing the best OOC of any team in the nation, as well as playing so well against such opponents. I will say that I hate all of the neutral site games though. I would have rather seen LSU play at Camp Randall and Wisconsin have to play in Death Valley. All those Midwestern boys would be gassed by the second quarter.

I would have also loved if we had a home-and-home vs. FSU rather than a single game in Orlando, but baby steps I guess.

In 2011 we likely play Oregon instead of Alabama in the NC if we don't beat them in season opener.

Oregon lost to USC 2 weeks after Alabama/LSU and one week after Oklahoma State/Iowa State.

I feel it was all a popularity contest

Returning NC game participant with Last second loss vs USC (also Oregon was PAC 12 champ) or SEC West rematch?

The reason bama got in was a bc a lesser program than Oregon lost to iowa state, and it was still a close call. I believe Oregon plays LSU if they had one loss.

Having said all that I regret nothing except our performance in the last game. I'm glad we played and beat Oregon in what was a great year. I don't care that we had to play bama again.

Another OOC game that hurt Auburn in 2004 was the one against the Citadel.

Auburn was scheduled to play Bowling Green, but BG backed out at the last minute in order to schedule Oklahoma (I want to say BG's athletic director was an OU alum and OU actually paid the buyout). So Auburn is stuck trying to find a replacement opponent and all of the 1-A programs are already booked.

Not saying that beating Bowling Green would have put Auburn in the title game, but the computer polls might have looked different.

Most of the talking heads (ESPN) after the 2004 regular season claimed that OU getting to play USC in the ship over Auburn came down to OOC schedule.

One of the OOC games Auburn was supposed to have in 2004, Bowling Green, dropped Auburn in favor of playing OU that year. Auburn had to scramble around at the last minute and had to schedule The Citadel. This one game was cited as the reason OU went over Auburn due to the other OOC games being pretty much a wash between the 2 schools.

ETA: pretty much what PJinATL said above. didn't see his/her post til after I posted.

Auburn fans have an excuse for everything bad that has ever happened to their program. It is very entertaining to sit back and read their bitching on the internet. But hey they do bitch as a "family".

You're still doing this? If I keep saying Bob Dole was elected president in 1996 it doesn't mean it really happened.

Lsu is on an insane regular season OOC run right now

I'd say. Forty-nine OOC regular season games in a row, the longest such streak in CFB history.

What makes that impressive is the fact that LSU is known for playing tough OOC teams annually.

It happened. AU was the best and most deserving team in 1983. To argue otherwise is asinine and or ignorant.

Sorry if the facts upset you but AU was the 1983 national champ and recognized as such by over a dozen selectors. You can back a handful of voters that fricked up. I'll back the facts and objective measures kiddo.

We wouldn't have beat Bama anyways so it doesn't matter, but we would've been playing for a national title appearance in the SEC Championship if we hadn't lost to Indiana.

Disagree. If the outcome of the SECCG would have put us in the first NCAA playoff and a shot at the title, then the mentality is extremely different. Totally different game.

As an outsider and LSU fan, I agree with zou_keeper here.

I think Mizzou had the "we're gonna lose, let's not embarass ourselves" mentality in the Bama game. But if they had a shot at the playoffs, then they would be playing wide open.

USC lost to crappy Oregon State but beat UCLA at the end of the year. They leapfrogged over us in the last week if the season the win the NC even though they had a worse resume.

Oregon State had tied UCLA earlier when they were #1. The Beavers were hardly "crappy". They finished 7th in the nation.

Now, the way things unfolded in the polls in November of 1967 were indeed detrimental and perhaps unfair to the Vols, but Southern Cal's resume was at least equal,if not better than UT's.

If that's your criteria, then I hope you never question Alabama's 1941 claim and those from the 1920's and 30's.

I thought Arkansas was going to win the title in 2006 until USCw beat us 50-14 in the first game of the season.
