Out of curiosity, who took more shots in their career?

When every piece of evidence shows your "total" is based around the fact that you had many, many, many more opportunities (games, a shot that awarded you 1 more point, etc) than the guy whose total you are attempting to break.........you gotta be pretty unaware to say you felt "cheated" by not getting even MORE shot opportunities.

Amazingly, the same one who lead his conference in assists by a wide margin.

Jaeson Maravich said he did not have a personal problem with Davis, but he wasn't happy that his father's record had a chance to be broken in a lower-tier, pay-to-play college basketball postseason tournament.

"I think it's a terrible look," Jaeson Maravich told the AP. "Your season should be over if you're 14-19.

Pete did and he also had a higher FG%, which highlights the importance of the 3 point line. Thanks for the contribution.

If Pete had the 3 point line we could forget Steven Curry.

I didn't realize the kid was playing for his dad as well.

That is even more suspect. You let your kid average nearly 40 minutes a game for 5 straight seasons while never posting a winning season.

Funny other stat . . .seasons were shorter in the 60s by 3-4 games depending on the schedule.

I know we are beating a dead horse here but it is interesting to see just how much the game has changed over the years.

That's pretty hilarious, what a knucklehead. I'll go about five years without thinking about Pistol Pete as he played before my time. I'll usually forget about his level of shear dominance on the game, and it's easy to think that maybe all the legends of his play are exaggerated over the years like we sometimes do in sports....until you look at those stats. Goddamn they're just insane. In a time where offensive records in nearly every sport area easier and easier to break, his remains...and it remains as gaudy as ever. And this despite a multitude of changes to the game that have made it easier to amass points. Just astonishing really.

It's all relative. Earlier this season the Buck's Giannis Antetokounmpo finally passed Kareem Adul-Jabbar's all-time scoring record for the Bucks in his 9th year.

Kareem only played 6 seasons for the Bucks.

588 of those points came on 3s. As we all know the 3 point shot wasn't around when Maravich played. Take away those points and he's 592 shy of Pete.

You sure about that?

As best as I can remember, he missed several shots at the end of his last game, any one that would have given him the "record". So, make a basket & you weren't cheated. Choked. mabe?

Hell today they would just take up their dribble at the FT line and take four steps before shooting. No call

What a loser. Not even an a significant accomplishment. Pete by 1,000 country miles. I’d love to see how many more Pete would’ve had with a 3 point line and playing 4 years. These entitled little LeBron wannabe bitches suck. Never heard MJ, Larry, Magic bitch - they were more concerned with winning games. If this arse clown is actually that good, his team would be playing in some post season tournament.

King James, 38,000 total points, 10,000 rebounds, and 10,000 assists.

Wake me when someone ever sniffs those numbers.

I’m glad this guy didn’t get the record.

I’m amused by LSU fans emailing the CBI, demanding they not extend his team an invite.

quote:

The CBI, which started Saturday, posted pictures on its Twitter account of Maravich and Davis shortly after Detroit Mercy lost at Youngstown State and had talks with the school about a potential invitation. Ultimately, the CBI decided not to give the Titans (14-19) an opportunity to pay $27,500 to play in the 16-team tournament. "We did receive unsolicited emails and voicemails about Detroit Mercy and some said we don't ever want Pete Maravich's record broken," said Rick Giles, president of the Gazelle Group that runs the CBI.

Yeah he had a wide open three and another easy shot. Its on him for not breaking the record or leading his team to a better record.

If Pete had the 3 point line we could forget Steven Curry.

And if the NCAA allowed freshmen to play back then, the record would be unreachable even in 5 full seasons. Maravich averaged 43.6 ppg in 19 games on the JV squad his freshman season. People ITT and others have brought up Maravich's volume shooting with stats like "he averaged 44 points but did so on 38 shots per game. That stat can't be viewed the same as we look at it today because there is a three point line now. Had Pete had a three point line, that number looks more like 38 shots to 50-52 ppg. Davis, with a 3 point line, averaged 25 points on 20 shots per game over the course of his career. Maravich also averaged over 5 assists per game over his career. The SEC leader this year averaged 5.3 per game.
