Steele is a recruiting guy, he did well in that aspect at LSU in his short time here. At worst, he'll improve your talent, and he's not near as bad a DC as the rant makes him out to be. LSU's defense wasn't exactly terrible this year.

That's essentially where I'm at. Not great, not terrible, but meh. I'll wait and see. It would be the most Auburn thing ever for him to come in and create a solid D, but I'm not counting on it.

I'm not saying it was Steels fault but LSU defense did not stop a decent offense this year unless you want to count the job they did against TT who lets be honest didn't have the athletes to match LSU on either side of the ball. To put it in perspective LSU was ranked 65th in pass defense with the same DB coach. Despite LSU offensive struggles that have gone on for years LSU was in every game they played until this year. The defense regressed and that could be because of new defensive scheme but for the athletes present this was a bad LSU defense.

This is an absolutely horrible hire. Steele has been bad everywhere he has been.

If he was so bad, why would Nick Saban hire him twice?

He had Top 20 defenses two out of three seasons at Clemson.

Even this year at LSU, against FBS opponents, LSU is #25 in Total Defense. Is that THAT bad? It's espectially not all that bad when you consider that in LSU's 12 games this season, they had to face 3 Top 10 offenses.

I'm not sure I understand all of the anti-Steele sentiment on the rant today.

I mean did Auburn really expect anyone better? Look at your program. If someone had told me a month ago that you all would hire Kevin Steele to replace Muschamp, I probably would not have believed it.
