Yeah, you shouldn't lose games you are favored by 20+ if you want to play in the MNC game...

I'll tell you something I can't get over that no one is really talking about. The fact that the Big ? scheduled this game on the weekend of the championship games.

I know the game was for a conference championship but in my opinion it doesn't count when there are no divisions. This past weekend is the start of the postseason anyway. All 12 regular season games should already have been played. They did this purposefully knowing that it could have NCG importance and that they would have an advantage against people who had already played their 12 games.

They can make all the "you should have to win your conference" arguments all they want but they should get penalized for not having to play 13 games if thats the case. Also, that didn't matter a few years ago when Oklahoma lost to KSU.

Plus, they lost to Iowa State.

Yeah, now that you mention it. I think it's 3 different times USC was voted out with the main argument against them being their bad losses. Twice LSU benefitted.

The PAC-10 and BigEast had a similar schedule with the final conference game being played on the same weekend as the SEC-C game.

The advantage is giving the conference schools two bye weeks and keeping them in the "eye" of the public" the final weekend. The big10 could have done this but for whatever reason, chose not too.

I actually agree with this. If you don't have a Championship game, your season should be required to finish before the weekend of Championship games. They chose not to have a CG and it shouldn't benefit them for taking the easy way out having a late game like they did, imo.

I don't think anyone gave Bama a pass but nobody played LSU close all year. Most people don't think OSU has the defense to keep it close or stop the run at all. Bama proved they could play LSU close and they lost in overtime. I really do think it is a big difference between that and losing to a bad team when your NFL caliber QB implodes and throws pick after pick. There are no excuses for the LSU game except they're a great team. A loss as bad as Iowa State will tend to define you, especially late in the season.

Absolutely. And if he wants to bitch about Saban being on TV, then fix your stupid schedule and be off this weekend, and you would have been on TV also. Just a dumb argument.

Difference between the SEC power houses and these other conference's good teams; our teams don't lose games they aren't suppose to. LSU/Bama was a coin flip, OSU/Iowa State was not.

Exactly. Saban openly talked about not being #1 and about his teams only loss. He didn't run from that. Gundy didn't say a damn thing about his team loss, he must have forgot it happened. He can blame nobody but himself for not having his team ready to get it in gear after halftime of that game. All he did was call out SEC defenses, bad was to go about it.

Gundy can blame the Big 12 for this. Voted down the plus 1 and win your conference requirement.

Don't tell anybody that. The truth doesn't sit well with some people.

I have not read the entire thread, but I'm going to spout off anyway. Why the hell was he calling out Saban? Saban did exactly what Gundy should have been doing for the past week . . . campaigning for his team. Sounds like he's acting like he's butt hurt. The stakes were too high to sit back like he did.

What killed USC that year was few quality wins.

LSU lost to unranked Arkansas and Kentucky! But what saved LSU's case? It was a series of wins against ranked teams, something USC did not have. The logic that got LSU into the NC Game in 2007 was not applied in 2011. A team with an inferior case was given the pass to the NC Game last night, and college football will forever be the worse for it.

NFL QB? In his only game against a Big 12 defense, Tyler Wilson threw for 510 yards and Arkansas had a receiver go for nearly 300. Pointedly, A&M had played OSU the week before and in a very similar game, Weeden threw for fewer yards.

OSU is a good team and their offense is great. But I don't really think it is better than Arkansas' and we saw how that worked out against the defenses of Alabama and LSU this year.

Exactly, so he has no real complaint. Also, everyone said that Bama not playing would be what swung this thing in OSU favor if they blew out Oklahoma and VT lost.

No. Not as far along as Wilson.

Wilson has shown more at this point than Murray.

Murray got a good amount of his stats against some weak competition.

Pump your brakes, sir.

Thought it would have been good to see a nfl caliner qb like weeden against lsu's defense.

Well, for the good of Weeden's NFL career, he's not having to face LSU's defense.

There is definitely doubt that the two best teams are playing. Alabama's case to be in the NC Game is defined, not just bolstered, by its loss to LSU at home. Outside of that game, Alabama has a very, very weak schedule. Arkansas and Penn State are the only borderline good teams Alabama faced all year, but we saw Arkansas struggle against the Bix XII's #7 and Penn State feasted off the worst Big 10 season in recent memory, which is saying something considering how poor the Big 10 has been recently. This year is the first year in BCS Era history that a team's case to be in the NC Game was built entirely on a loss. That direction is a direction in the negative for college football.
