I hope so too... I like it when Auburn is good. It makes the rivalry more fun.

So when will the championships won now stop counting? What's the cut off? 50 years?

How is this possible?
According to just about everyone, LSU was not any good until Saban got here in 2000.

What is it before Saban? How much has their position changed in the rankings since he got there?

I know you were. I dug back to minimize your dig.

2014, when the playoffs start.
Think about it, who counts basketball championships from back before the tourney when they just had polls?

Historic Top 15-25 program to top 10-12!
Most will still rank
Bama, OU ND, USC, Michigan, Ohio state, Texas, Nebraska, and Miami, ahead of us by historic margins of success. That's not including programs that were strong in the early years as well.

Does that take into account the fact that USC cheated most of those years?
I hope it does. Frickin condems.

I did think about it. That's why I asked. I don't really agree with the whole standard of legitimizing historical achievements through current standards. I think people do what they do what they can at the time, and that you follow what they established. The pioneers of football were no less important, and their feats no less legitimate because people in 2014 have decided there is a better way to name a champion.

In 1988 LSU was 12th nationally in winning percent. By the end of 1999 LSU had dropped to 17th.
By 2005 Saban had raised LSU back up to 16th.
After last season Miles has them back at 12th.

That makes sense. For the record, I've never thought LSU didn't win anything before Saban. I think they went into a different gear though.

Oh good, then you agree to recognize LSU's 1935 basketball national championship!
I'm with you, those Alabama teams that went to the Rose Bowl, barefoot and all, and beat those yankees down deserve mention in the annals of college football lore, and derserve to be called "Champions" in my book.

I compare Saban/Miles to Dietzel/McClendon. The early 50's were like the 90's for LSU.
I mean, just look at the hat:

Well, I admittedly didn't know anything about the history, so I just went and gave myself a brief lesson.
I'd absolutely give LSU the championship, or at least a share of the claim. Helms went back and awarded champions to schools in most years, save 1935, and it doesn't look like there was an equal or better claim. LSU went and played Pittsburg in the American Legion Bowl National CHampionship game, so I assume they thought they were playing for something important. Back then, if teams from the south were playing the yankees, I assume it was for something big.
I think it's stupid Helms went back and retroactively named a champion too, especially when there were two competing tournaments with similar prestige for quite a while. So I guess rather than discount a national champion, I'm more inclined to let the teams that were deemed champions by reputable (at the time) organizations share. It does nothing but give people associated with the school and region a sense of pride and history.
And, I'll add that I think it's pretty cool that I now know that LSU was so good in basketball in 1935.
