Well said. How much was the settlement check for?
That isn't going to buy your mom a house but $1,150 can do some damage.

Hell yea I'd take $1100 in a heartbeat. Bills be trippin

So taking away a beloved video game from millions (players included) is worth $1100? Get the frick out of here.

I think their point was having the video game and getting an amount similar to that to have their likeness on the game.
I mean, I think it is a valid point. None of us played NCAA with the generic names and players. All of us got the real rosters for it. Without the real rosters, the game is stupid. And the real rosters are the real players. So, without them, there is no game, and that seems to be some sort of tangible value. And EA knew that, which is why they continued to make it as easy as possible to "share rosters" and "edit players".
Just my two cents.

Greg McElroy's family is pretty well off and has never wanted for anything.
Can't say that makes him a voice for the average college football player.
Sure, it's a dream to be on a video game, but they've earned it by having their elite talent. Treating them like kids that should be flattered just goes to show it's exploitative.

Well current players are getting nothing anyway, so why don't they just put it to a vote. Go to each team and say we will give each of you free NCAA football games for life each year it comes out if you agree to be in this game. Anyone who doesn't want to won't be in the game. I would bet 99% of players would gladly not get paid to be in that video game.

That's getting paid, though.

Would love to see what the lawyers walked away with and what O'Bannon walked away with on this deal.

I honestly never cared either way. Have the game or don't have it, I won't buy it regardless.
I was just pointing out that McElroy's perspective shouldn't be the only one.

Has to be pretty hefty just based off of time and effort alone. How long has this case been in process? Has to be closing in on close to a decade since they started working on the ground floor of it, right?

Speak for yourself. I was playing the game long before downloadable rosters were a thing. I had zero problem having my passer named QB #12 and I was too lazy to go through the entirety of the 85-man roster to give them their real names.

But QB #12 was the same height, weight and color as Greg McElroy.
Would you have been just as fine playing with totally random rosters that didn't equate to the roster at Alabama at all? You might have been fine with it. Everyone I knew growing up through the PS/PS2 years and then in college in the PS3 years wouldn't have been too thrilled.

I would have still enjoyed the game. Now, we have nothing.

By McElroy's time downloadable rosters were a thing.
I was dating myself to John David Phillips - who was the starting QB for Alabama in NCAA Football '99.

Well, this thing is winding down and eventually the schools will allow EA to do it again either (a) by paying players for their likeness or (b) with uneditable rosters that are randomly created.
My guess is they will not put a product to market with only (b) because they know it would bomb.

Haha - I had that one too. All of them all the way back to "State College" vs "South Bend" on Bill Walsh CFB.
