So is the weed thing just a guess as the reason? By Grant's statement it seemed a little more serious like improper benefits or something.

quote:

“We are extremely disappointed in the choices and decisions made by these young men that has led to this suspension,” Grant said. “Talent is a gift, but character is a choice. The consequences of their choices have negatively impacted them as individuals and the people that love and support them. Our hope is that they will be mature enough to accept responsibility for their actions and place a higher value on their character.”

That's an awfully strong statement for this to be about weed. I think this has to be much closer to "Jordan Jefferson clocks someone at a nightclub" than "Honey Badger took a few puffs in his dorm room."

I'd rather have him instill enough discipline in his players to prevent this kind of crap from happening all the time. No one wants to address it, but if 25 or 30 football players had been suspended at various times over the last 2 years, people would be livid.

do you instill discipline by not doing shite when they break rules? And no i dont mean urban meyer brand discipline.

Just met with Anthony Grant. His decision to suspend Green, Releford, Steele. No timetable for return

Which is what makes me think it had to be something big enough to warrant it and that he would be losing control if he let it continue. Keep in mind Grant was at Florida so it's not like he hasn't been part of a major SEC BB program and knows where his bread is buttered IMO.

Any chance it's something stupid in retaliation to him letting Mitchell go? The way some of those guys have acted (and already beem suspended) before I think you almost have to give Grant the benefit of the doubt.

ETA: And if they're driving them back to Tuscaloosa as we speak and they can't even sit on the bench....shite is gettin' real IMO.

My problem isn't the fact that he is suspending players for being shite heads. If they got into a fight or some other such bullshite, then they don't deserve to continue playing college basketball. It's a privilege, not a right.

My problem is the fact that this is the 3rd time he has had to suspend players in the last 2 years. 4 different players, and one guy twice. That's a shite ton for a basketball program. Whatever he is doing as far as getting through to them about what behavior is and is not acceptable is clearly not working. That much is on him.

Do you think most fans would've been behind him had he booted them from the get go (given that's a lot of the talent on your team)? The reason I ask is that's a hard place to be in at somewhere like Alabama where top-talented kids aren't beating down your doors. Sometimes you have to take risks on kids that might not be the greatest quality characters in order to get talent on your team. I think that's what Grant has done here and it's biting him in the arse now.

I really can't believe anyone would give a coach a hard time for suspending players.

Do people really think he wants to play three or four players down?

If you don't instill discipline in the program it will come back to haunt you when it matters.

I don't know why anybody would be upset about Grant. The dude has done excellent so far in putting Bama on the radar. Those dudes obviously fricked something up and they knew better

So y'all are saying that these dumbasses bitched or something to Grant and he got fed up with it?

Green, Mitchell, and Steele were all inherited from Gottfried. Releford is the only one Grant recruited. All of the freshmen seem to be good kids.

Like others said, it sounds like they either got into a fight or decided to knight for Mitchell's worthless arse and they got suspended. He can't let players get away with that kind of crap, but at the same time he has to do a better job of preventing them from doing it in the first place.

no, it would be on him if he werent doing anything. But guess what? He is. ITs his second year. He's not putting up with the bullshite and he's suspending players. You're mad cause he didnt prevent this shite? Or "didnt get through to them." shite, he suspending them. Not much else he can do other than kick them off for good. Either way, being mad because discpline problems have happened is kind of stupid. the only way i would be mad is if they were not punioshed, which they clearly have been.

when you figure out how to prevent 18-22 year olds from doing something stupid, please let the rest of us know. Itll probably be worth a noble prize.
