That's a game, not a moment. You can pinpoint a moment, point right to it. What "moment" would be the BCS Championship game? The announcement being read on TV of the top 2 BCS teams? Kickoff?

It's hard to pick a single moment, especially one that has any meaning for the entire conference. Here is my try, though.

First SECCG
2009 SECCG - two undefeateds playing for a BCSCG berth.
2011 - Top 3 in the polls
1-9-12 - Six in a row

These will be the ones people look back on. All were college football historic moments and all SEC. Pretty impressive.

The greatest moment in SEC history is when that clock hit 00:00 in the 1926 Rose Bowl, giving Alabama a 20-19 win over Washington. There's no arguing with it. Whether you like Alabama or not, that Rose Bowl win was the most important event in the history of Southern football.

A "moment" technically doesn't have to be a single play, dude.

This did set into motion the chain of events that brought Nick Saban to Alabama.

What it did was usher in an era where the media realized the stakes these programs were playing at, & also a wake-up call to not only the bigtime football played in the SEC, but the bigtime cheating going on.

Also put a mushroom cloud over the Memphis area in terms of recruiting for awhile.

But every team that has ever graced the SEC were all in the Southern Conference in 1925 (minus Missouri and Texas A&M but they don't count yet).

But if we are going to go by strictly SEC years then it would have to be December 5, 1992, and Antonio Langham's pick six in the waning moments of the inaugural SEC Championship Game. As ESPNU so poignantly pointed out, Langham's interception was the play that changed college football. If something is to be labeled the greatest, that something must have historical significance, and I don't think a single game/play in the last twenty years carries as much historical significance as that moment in time.

I could see Langham's INT being it.

So, your picks are the Langham pick and the '26 Rose Bowl?

Hmmm...

Could also put, the day the Charter began for the SEC, moving teams away from the Southern Conference, or the actual day the SEC agreed to a Championship game. That decision facilitated the reality of what's being discussed now, with a plus one and a playoff, with the success it's had.
