Dude was in the SEC for 3 years and he lived off of Muschamp's players and reputation
His first game at LSU he gave up 550 yards when that meant something

John Chavis.
He's the 3rd best at LSU, much less the SEC

Greatest Defensive Coordinator in Modern SEC History?
Hell, even the co-coordinator disaster with Mallory and Peveto wasn't truly awful; 2008 compares pretty closely to 2013, other than 2013 had a better offense and wasn't throwing a ton of pick-sixes. Both were subpar by LSU standards.
I would speculate that Vandy's old DC under Franklin might have been pretty good. They did well, with a lot less talent than you want to have.

"Good not great"? GTFO
Chavis has twice as many top ten scoring defenses nationally, and twice as many top ten total defenses nationally, as Muschamp.
And he never had Saban as puppet master.
Will look up Joe Kines' stats.

He never had the title but it was Saban. In his five years at LSU every defensive call went through him if not outright called by him for his protege, WM. The '03 LSU defense is one of the greatest in SEC history as are 2 or 3 of the 'Bama defenses. I would rank Chavis 2nd FWIW.

Kirby Smart.
He had the #1 defense in the conference in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. No other DC in SEC history can stake a claim to that many consecutive seasons with the conference's top defense.

Saban doesn't count. We are talking guys that were coordinators and that weren't puppets.

Id hope so considering Muschamp has spent 7 seasons as a DC in his career to Chavis's 20 years of a DC in the SEC and 25 years overall

I'm not going on stats; those will be skewed towards teams with tons of talent.
There were some teams that lacked talent but were very solid defensively. Like I said, Vandy played a couple of seasons where they were very impressive, considering the players they ran out there.

He was Alabama's DC in 2007.
Didn't work out so well, good luck with that.
