Pistol Pete was born outside of Pittsburgh. Moved to Clemson and played high school basketball at Daniel High in Clemson from 61-63.His dad then took a job at N.C. State and Pete finished high school in Raleigh in 65. Neither South Carolina nor Louisiana can claim Pistol as a native son

His dad, Press took over as head coach at Clemson in 1956 or 1957.Press was head coach at a small school in West Virginia before coming to Clemson. So yes Pete did spend 7 or 8 years in South Carolina and then two years in North Carolina but was born in PA. and spent time in West Virginia before coming to Clemson

I haven’t seen Adrian Peterson or Marcus Dupree mentioned. Both are top in their states all time.

Peterson is from Texas.
Tough to say he’s the top Texas athlete of all Time.
He’s probably not even the best RB from the state of all time.

If we’re talking pure athlete I’ll give Peterson the edge for RBs and maybe top in the state overall. He was(is) such a physical freak.

If we go by a strict interpretation of the OP question I would say Pittsburgh. With that said he moved to whatever town Davis and Elkins College is in West Virginia at the age of 1 in 1947 and lived there until 1956 or 1957. So you could argue West Virginia. Might not be a real answer since he moved around so much. Guess wherever he wanted to call home. Guess my point is he is not a true born and bred South Carolina native

Sydney Moncrief was 10 times the player that pippen was. 5 time all star and two time defensive player of the yearin the NBA. Was the best player on his team and did not play Tonto to Jordans Lone ranger. He also didn't cry like a baby when his coach Drew up a play for him to take a last second shot.
