Hurts your argument in two ways. I'll let you figure that out

Not to mention if he was drafted by any team other than the Bucs he would have been playing in the NFL from the get-go

If you take both at their primes, then Bo by a huge margin. Normally, that ends the conversation. But,
quote:

Deion > Bo

Deion's hips lasted longer

for once, someone has posted a legitimate argument that, in fairness, should at least make Bo supporters (like me) pause and consider. Bo's body ripped apart at a very early age. You can build a super turbo-charged hot rod with nitrous oxide that could win any street race, but if the torque causes the transmission and rear axle to wrap around itself like a doodlebug, it isn't the best street racer.

Not really, he played only half of the season in football. Thus, it is difficult to compare his football stats to Sanders'. It is especially silly to say something (as some other poster did) that he didn't "start" ahead of Marcus Allen. Of course he didn't. He joined the team halfway through the year.

In terms of Bo's baseball stats, consider that his injury also would have affected him in that sport as well, and that he is the first person to ever play pro baseball with a fake hip.

Decent argument, I guess. But in his prime, Bo could run faster, hit harder and throw farther.

I don't really see the argument for Deion in terms of pure athleticism.

Deion or anyone else for that matter. Bo was a once in a lifetime athlete and I root for the team on the other side of the state.

In the spring of 1987, still a true freshman, Sanders won both the 100- and 200-meter dash races at a track and field meet, despite having almost no time to prepare for the competition. That night, he started in the outfield for Florida State's baseball team.

quote:

You probably already know this, but it's so impressive we've got to repeat it: In September of 1989, Sanders hit a home run for the New York Yankees and then scored a touchdown on a punt return for the Falcons -- in his NFL debut -- just five days later.

quote:

Sanders had a rushing TD in a 1996 playoff game vs. Philadelphia, making him one of two players in NFL history to score a touchdown six different ways (interception return, punt return, kickoff return, receiving, rushing and fumble recovery). The other is fellow Hall of Famer Bill Dudley.

quote:

Sanders is the only player in history to have both a reception and an interception in the Super Bowl. He caught a 47-yard pass from quarterback Troy Aikman in Super Bowl XXX, one year after intercepting a Gale Gilbert pass in the 49ers' Super Bowl XXIX win over San Diego.

quote:

Deion Sanders is the only person to hit an MLB home run and NFL touchdown in the same week. He's also the only person to play in the World Series and the Super Bowl.

quote:

During the 1996 season, Sanders skipped the baseball season by concentrating strictly on football and attended the first NFL training camp of his career to better familiarize himself with the nuances of the wide receiver position. He became the second two-way starter (after the Cardinals' Roy Green) in the NFL since Chuck Bednarik for the first half of the season due to Michael Irvin serving a five game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

quote:

During his career, Sanders intercepted 53 passes for 1,331 yards (a 25.1 yards per return average), recovered four fumbles for 15 yards, returned 155 kickoffs for 3,523 yards, gained 2,199 yards on 212 punt returns, and caught 60 passes for 784 yards. Sanders amassed 7,838 all-purpose yards and scored 22 touchdowns: nine interception returns, six punt returns, three kickoff returns, three receiving, and one fumble recovery. His 19 defensive and return touchdowns are an NFL record. He was selected to eight Pro Bowls in 1991--1994, 1996–1999. He was also awarded the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1994.

Eh, you aren't going to convince him, he's an FSU homer. Nearly everyone else who remembers says Bo.

Stats and facts don't lie.

WOW and running/hitting/throwing = weak arguments.

I'm pretty sure you just pulled that out of your arse.

OK. You just admitted that you are a dumbass.
We'll look at stats and then body types.

Deion's total yards in the NFL =
2199 punt return yards
3523 kickoff return yards
1331 INT return yards
784 receiving yards
22 All purpose TDs.

53 career INTs
13 fumble recoveries
19 lost fumbles

Bo Jackson total yards in the NFL =
2782 rushing yards
352 receiving yards

18 all purpose TDs
In his limited play, he had 11 fumbles.

Deion Sanders in MLB
162 game averages:
.263 AVG
.319 OBP
.363 SLG
141 hits
40 BBs
89 Ks
10 HRs
42 RBIs
75 SBs

Bo Jackson in MLB
162 game averages:
.250 AVG
.309 OBP
.474 SLG
140 Hits
47 BBs
196 Ks
33 HRs
97 RBIs
19 SBs

Who shows more speed stats?

Deion doesn't even rep FSU. I love Bo way more than Deion, but like I said, stats and facts don't lie.

Deion 6'1" 195 lbs

Bo Jackson 6'1" 220 lbs

And you are telling me that Bo showed better speed during his career?
And that he started better than Deion?

Turn in your mancard. Your mendacity reeks.

None of the evidence you posted directly suggests that Deion is "faster over the first 10 yards."

In fact, I seriously doubt that such evidence exists at all. Nobody times anyone in the 10 yard dash.

Now, if you want to say that Deion looked quicker, in your subjective opinion - that would be an ok thing to say in my opinion.

Have you ever watched the Combine?
They have the 10 yard splits.

Or do you just see what you want to see to help your argument and ignore the reality that is around you.

Not when the thread is about

Greater Athlete: Bo or Deion

Are stats really the best evidence here? In terms of pure athleticism, it is all about who runs faster, throws harder, hits harder, etc.

And Deion loses that battle. Argument over.

Yeah, I'm waiting for him to pull out the Herschel card. Pretty soon he'll be posting pics of 40 y.o. Herschel as MMA fighter.
