Actually isn't it the p&w dept. screwing it up by letting prop boats in the shallows which cuts up the floating grasses which used to hold the sediment and rebuild the landmass. Especially after storms in the gulf.

Dredging of the marsh by oil companies is a pretty big cause. It allows for saltwater intrusion.

Combine that with the existence of the levee itself, which prevents Spring floodwaters from supplying marshland with needed nutrients.
