It's a beautiful campus, don't get me wrong. The problem is knowing where the campus ends and Columbia takes over.

This is why the actual acre numbers are so small. If you measured where the farthest campus buildings are from each other the number would be much higher. But much of what is in between some buildings, including the streets, aren't officially a part of the campus but are a part of the city.

There are certainly parts where you have campus, city, campus and the only way to tell is if you happen to see campus signage out front.

eta: Believe it or not there is a building called the SC Bookstore. Huge Gamecock logo for signage. It's on a street corner and each of the other 3 street corners are SC buildings... but the bookstore isn't a part of the campus. From what I remember hearing Barnes & Noble makes sure it's the only official part of the school.

The University of South Carolina is taking over almost the entire area from Gervais St. and east. I work downtown at SCDOT, and we are now completely surrounded by campus, you just wouldn't know it because most of South Carolina doesn't look like a college campus, just the horseshoe.

Tailgating for a South Carolina game is more like tailgating for a Nascar race. The stadium is surrouned by abandoned industrial buildings and flat land, including the state fairgrounds. If you like Nascar tailgating in 100 degrees with no shade, then this is the area for you. You set up in one of the abandoned industrial parking lots, the fairgrounds, or behind the waffle house. You better bring a tent. The heat is no joke over here, its a good ten degrees warmer than Athens.

so glad UGA doesn't run their stadium like an arena league franchise

right! that bullshite they do at ClemU & Tech with Zombie Nation along with the epileptic ribbons flashing is soooo 1990's Charlotte Rage.

yeah nothing says Bulldog football like Baba O'Riley. kinda fitting though. 1980 is only 9 years removed from the release of the song.

the Los Angeles Lakers have used it for player intro's since around 2003. rock on Bulldogs.

Do what? lulz

Surrounded by abandoned industrial buildings?

How long has it been since you've been down there you .... ten years or more?

There is one building for rent that I know of, next to the Budweiser distributorship, and I was just down there this morning.

I know of absolutely zero abandoned buildings anywhere within sight of Billy Brice. Several are for sale or lease for big bucks - several others are secretly being sold and they will eventually be emptied of their current offices and torn-down to build new student housing and/or luxury condos.

I think you may have misrepresented the facts just a bit there fella.

Yeah USC is moving more towards the river.

The area around Colonial Life Arena is going to be looking A LOT different in the coming years as well.

The fact that you know what a NASCAR tailgating scene looks like makes your opinion worthless and trailer park esque

Once complete its going to be up there with all the great tailgaiting environments.

I went this year for the first time since 2010 and you could tell a big difference.

Is that road going through the center of the GIF Bluff Road?

Just making sure I am looking at it correctly?

Yes ... Bluff Road going through the center north to south and George Rogers Blvd showing there in the lower one third directly in front of the north end of the stadium running east to west.

Wait until y'all come back in 2016 .... the plaza will actually be done before our first home game this year but it should really be well established by Halloween weekend 2016.

I was down there this morning - it's coming along nicely. They finally got the water turned-back-on to our Cockaboose so I was able to get in there and de-winterize and do a little spring cleaning.

That's impressive. How'd they move the entire stadium to the left a little bit?

Ace Sanders' punt return v UGa 2012 - the violent crowd noise when he broke across midfield just moved the whole damn thing.

not quite an earthquake game

honest question, not a flame, does SC ever plan to move a stadium on-campus or at this point are they pretty much staying at the current WB forever?

One day in the not-too-distant future the campus will have grown to surround the stadium.

We have incredible potential for growth and are buying-up everything between the campus and the stadium on a yearly basis. Property donations in the form of bequests are rolling-in ... it's been amazing.

As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the new building projects taking place around The Colonial Center are going to be every-bit as impressive as those happening around Billy Brice. I've actually got some of the conceptuals out in my office of the finished products around The Colonial Center that will basically tie-in to our Greek Village, which is impressive in its own right .... it's all pretty neat.

I'm proud of SC - the SEC has been very very good to us, it really has.

Hell yeah. The only long term thing that I get the feeling that the entire USC administration is lost on is the future of the old Carolina Coliseum.
