This is his remarks on staying at Bama for the playoffs. He is going to do a great job at Georgia because he has character and he is a class act. I hate we are losing him but I think Georgia is getting a great HC.

Agree, Smart deserves the UGA job and has probably learned a great deal from Saban about not only being a good coach but surrounding yourself with top notch staff. I expect UGA to be at the top of the East with Smart at the helm.

IMHO, Smart is about 50/50 to succeed at UGA using current/former $aban assistants' success at HC as a yardstick:

Fisher: Yes
Dooley: No
Mac: Yes
Boom 1: No
Boom 2: TBD
Dantonio: Yes
Williams, B.: No

Smart has also hired an offensive coordinator and offensive line coach but said Monday he wasn't focusing on filling out the rest of his staff so he can focus on preparing for Michigan State. Smart decided to stay through the conclusion of Alabama's season before moving full-time to his new gig at Georgia.

"I don't think I want to put a timeline on that," Smart said about finalizing his staff. "It's not something I'm worried about. Again, right now I'm not even dealing with that. I'm dealing with Michigan State 24/7 it's the most important thing to me, it's the most important thing to these kids. There will be time for that and a place for that and we are moving toward that."

He's hired two coaches and gotten two commitments while focusing "24/7" on Michigan St.

Sounds more like qualifications for the pope than head football coach at Georgia.

I am probably in the minority of Bama fans that wanted Kirby to have a shot at the Bama job when Nick moves on to Texas/Dallas/Cleveland/Indy/USCw/Michigan/WVU/etc.

I think he'll do well. Don't know if that means championships because that hasn't been UGA's thing, historically.

Bobby Williams succeeded $aban at MSU after he left for LSU.

Gus is focusing on his staff 24/7 and hasn't filled all positions.

"Character & is a class act". Reminds me a lot of Dooley. Another apple off Saban's tree.

Sounds like how many discribed Mark Richt. I think he is a gamble for a program like UGA, he still hasn't proven he can stop a team with a good QB.

And AU fans aren't happy about the time he's taking. Apparently, UGA fans are cool though. To each their own.

Best of luck to Kirby on his #1 24/7 focus.

Is UGA paying him a salary for this month's work?

Kirby will do well, if giving a proper chance, and I think he will have that at Georgia. He has been with Saban long enough to learn the ins and outs of what he needs to do to be successful as a head coach. He seems to be a very level headed guy without any kind of hint of scandal. I wish him all the luck in the world ....until he plays us

based on zero experience as a head coach? How about we let him win a game before we act like he will be a success.

I think the best coach in the east now resides in Georgia, but we will have to wait and see.
