Apparently Tennessee made the CWS not too long ago. Nobody cared.

Hell, people in Tennessee like the Braves more than Tennessee baseball.

Did we just allocate a bunch of money for a Foley renovation?

What was UGA's average attendance from like 04-08 when they made 3 CWS trips during those times? I could see UGA averaging 5k with a new ballpark or renovated old one. Actually love the spot its at now with the Ivy in right but could understand new location with state of the art everything!

Yes, we did allocate money for Foley renovations; just looked it up. It'd be nice to see us really commit to having a successful baseball program.

Any good coach is going to only accept the job with promises of facility upgrades. If yall start scraping the bottom of the barrel for candidates, we'll know the AD didn't want to commit.

There is just so much potential for UGA baseball. Actually for the whole athletic dept, but that's a different thread.

Wow lower than I thought it would be. Do you think a new state of the art park would be something that could unlock the passions of the UGA fans? Can't imagine Athens during a spring weekend with LSU in town not packing a new ballpark with 5-7k! I've been there for a SC series when UGA was good and seen 3k plus all 3 games.

Foley only seats about 3,000 and a lot of students used to go sit on Kudzu Hill instead of sitting in the stadium...I think with a new coach to energize the fan base and renovations, we could put 4,000-4,500 asses in the seats per game.

Easily. Just market it as a great day drinking opportunity and they will come.

Imagine if they were allowed to sell alcohol in the stadiums, it would solve everything. Alcohol solves everything

ive been to more baseball games than probably anyone i ever talk to about it and the number isnt very high at all. and it's mainly because 3 kids from my high school are on the team.

no one goes to the games and no one even talks about going to the games. there's rarely even a "should we go to the baseball game today?" conversation. the students that go are the same relatively small group each game.

im not sure what im saying entirely, but it's just not a thing people do/consider.

My old baseball coach!I know he used to be pretty tight with GT but that was a long time ago.

He also has a big time relationship with the Braves...helped out a great deal when they drafted Jason Heyward.

From Tyler Dawgden...

Re: baseball facility improvements due to 'funding' issues (read: dangling a significant lead gift to jump start the money train). Is is possible we've also been holding off as a negotiating tool to offer a possible top flight coach? I'd say it is pretty short sighted to do that, considering you are likely losing more interest than you'll get with the tactic, but something has to explain the lack of commitment to funding significant improvements at Foley when we clearly have money in the bank to make it happen.

When did you play?

And yea, he was tight with Danny Hall over there. If we can get a coach to develop a relationship with Guerry, it will really help recruiting and getting a good pipeline going.

All the more reason to go after long time Hall assistant Scott Stricklin from Kent St.

A while back...back in the late 70's when he was coaching over @ Morgan Falls in Sandy Springs...before he started his East Cobb gig.

Anyway, always thought he was great coach and a very good guy although he seemed to be not very popular with rival coaches and some parents.

A FWIW from another board....
quote:

hearing a former UGA assistant and current MSU assistant Butch Thompson is the front runner at UGA. He is a pitching oriented coach. In 2012 the staff at MSU was 2nd in the nation.

Also Perno has already been offered a another job from what I have been told.

I would be dissapoint... I hope we're going after bigger fish first...
