Why would Florida fans continue to talk about it 25 years later?

It seems like after beating the shite out of Peyton four years in a row they would've gotten over it. Or after we beat the shite out of you for 10 years in a row. You act like Tennessee and Florida have annual wars. The reality is it isn't much of a rivalry. Beating Florida 7 times since 1956 usually doesn't constitute a rivalry.

Root for Florida. As LSU fans, we should always root for Florida in this game. The combined SEC record of our Eastern Division opponents is now a divisional tiebreaker. Florida beating Tennessee would benefit LSU and hurt anyone who happens to play Tennessee and is involved in a 3- or more-way tie for the SEC West. You know, whoever that might be.

Use some logic. Assume it happened, really happened, for a moment.

Do you honestly think the entire stadium chanted that? No, of course not. I don't care how college football makes people insane, it did not happen like that if it even happened.

So, it we can eliminate all UT fans are evil, then we are left with the more likely scenario whereby this was isolated to a single or more likely VERY small group of UT fans really being rude with such a chant.

If it did happen, I bet large sums it was very isolated and someone came back from Knoxville, told the story and then it blew up to all UT fans suck.

UT fans are fine and decent people. Just like all football fans except for Raider fans.

You can do it.

m sure in real life you're a pretty decent guy to be around so I'll just chalk it up to you trying to be an Internet tough guy and troll. I'm sure it'll be a good game this weekend. If you come to the Swamp, enjoy the stadium, the city, and the game. Most of us will be friendly to you guys.

In my experiences at the Swamp, that has not been the case. But those were night games, maybe this trip will be different.

I'll be getting into town about 2 hours before kickoff, with my little sister and 7 year old nephew, and then I have to drive them back to Atlanta almost immediately after the game. She bought the tickets, so I can't complain about the schedule.

I graduated UGA in 1992

What was going on in Gainesville really resonated with the student body at UGA (and at schools all over the country I am sure)

I really find it hard to believe that any kind of taunting came from the student body at UT.

Could there have been a few drunk assholes that said something along those lines and planted the seed for this story?

Sure - and that is likely what happened.

I've watched the replay of that game and found no evidence of anything of the sort being chanted against Florida. If there was any chant whatsoever, it was probably by a group of 2-8 highly intoxicated people, then it was heard and wildly exaggerated by nearby Florida fans, and many now think the entire stadium did it.

Also atlgator's fact about UT beating UF "4" times since 1956 is a lie. It's 8. And we didn't play every year till 92.

I'm your side here. No need to convince me. I've stated my theory. Not all UT fans suck.

I've always said you can airlift one stadiums fans into another stadium and give them those colors and you'd never tell the difference (excluding Vandy - too may pocket protectors and too few of them).

The law of large numbers applies to fans too.

Mostly great fans, a good number meh fans and very few actual turds in any one fan base. Any one that claims otherwise is just way too biased to discuss football.

I would agree. Just all of the things that happen to visitors at UF games indicates that maybe the turd proportion goes to farther extremes. I've never been to the Swamp myself (I would fear for my life getting out of there if UT won) but I know many people who have, and most have had bad experiences. I don't doubt that the are plenty there, who you could hang out or tailgate with, and they would welcome you and it would be great. I just think that the turds there might take it a little farther than turds elsewhere.

Only 4 days till game time. You can make it. If you don't, you better at least pick it back up in game.

You're doing just about the same thing I'm doing. I'll be down there about 1:30, tailgate for a little while, and come back home to Atlanta right after the game. Enjoy the Swamp and the time with your family. Here's to a good game

In 1990, UT fans wouldn't have given a shite about Florida. There was zero history to show that kind of hate and to chant that after a win against a team you don't know from Adam? Makes zero sense.

But we play them the very next week and outside of our overall record against the Gators (12-10), we don't have shite on them.

Your fear is irrational. No UT fan has been killed leaving a UF football game.

Again, if you think our fans because they cheer for UF are worse than any other group of fans then we have nothing to talk about.

I saw one drunk frat star giving a UT fan shite before the game. I, along with several other UF fans surrounded the Frat star, told him to move his rude, drunk arse along and apologized to the UT fan and told him to have a great time. I'm betting he'd tell you a different story.

We have shite heads just like everyone else.

Makes sense. And probably propaganda has been spread within our fanbase, as it apparently has in yours. But that's how it is, when you dislike a team you'll find reasons to dislike them even more. I know bad things that have happened to people I know at BHG, but I don't doubt that some of your fellow Gators have had bad experiences at Neyland as well.
