If BD stays at UF for 20 more years, and wins a couple more titles, then yes he will fall under the legendary category.

ESPN started in Connecticut by broadcasting Uconn sports in the late 70's. This was followed by adding the ACC as the ACC could not get a broadcast deal with the Big 3 (ABC / CBS / NBC) when the B1G, Big 8, SWC, PAC, and SEC all had deals with the big 3 networks. Florida State did not enter the ACC till 1992. The Boston College AD backpedaled about ESPN telling them who to add in conference realignment. LINK Pat Summit was furious about ESPN recruiting Maya Moore to Uconn. LINK. You can tell me ESPN has not helped Uconn and the ACC grow, but I do not buy it.

Leaving out when Calhoun and K got hired, pretty convenient

So you're telling me that when Duke, UNC, and UCONN got TV exposure more on par with their national competitors, their programs improved on a national scale? Furthermore, that this change coincided with the rise some hall of fame coaches at those schools?
Color me shocked.

Easy, killer. There's still the matter of a certain blue blood program in Lexington that might have something to say about that.

Truth. For some reason I left Kentucky out of the discussion.
Probably Alzheimers. Or just general stupididdity.

Next year is gonna be really interesting.
UF next year actually might have more talent than this year's team, but will have A LOT less experience.
Plus, Damontre Harris will be back after missing this year with suspension, and Eli Carter will be back after RSing because his leg wasn't fully healed.
UF's lineup next year is very hard to guess depending on how BD will want the team to play, but I'm guessing:
G Eli Carter
G Michael Frazier
G Kasey Hill
F Chris Walker
F Dorian Finney-Smith
Of course, Chris Walker, Kasey Hill, and Michael Frazier could all go to the draft, but I'm reasonably confident that all 3 will be back for UF next year.

More like more exposure than their competitors, and protection when they did bad things. In the bigger picture it is the chicken and egg debate. Did those coaches rise to HoF status because of their ability or because the ESPN help allowed them to become HoF coaches because of the added exposure?

Look, I believe all schools cheat to some extent, but since ESPN came to power it sure seems like some programs now get the spotlight and some get the umbrella.

Donovan seems to accomplish big things quietly. He doesn't seem to have a legendary personality. He's a great coach that doesn't draw a ton of media attention to himself.
However, if he wins another title this year, he'll be tied for 3rd most national championships of all time for a coach (with Bobby Knight, Coach K and Jim Calhoun). So accomplishment-wise, he's getting up there in legendary status. One more after that and he'd be tied with Adolph Rupp for the 2nd most ever. Of course, no one will ever catch John Wooden at #1.

Could go the other way too. Did those schools previous lack of exposure result in them being under ranked and underseeded, resulting in a more difficult path to national prominence than a UK or UCLA would have faced?

LOL. UK, IU, and UCLA hardly get the umbrella. If any of those schools get the umbrella, it's UCLA, but that's because they're on the west coast.

The days of Papa Sam will probably never return. Wooden records will stand unless things get that lax again. In the age of Twitter too hard to keep that stuff quiet that long.

This can't be true. Aubrens has the best coach in the country, ask em.

My point!
NCAA will go after UK, IU, KU, and other top basketball schools
NCAA gives UNC, Duke, UCLA, Arizona, and others the umbrella
As for UCLA, read up on this guy's influence during the Wooden era. LINK
Kids today may have no clue to history but older folks were around back then and saw it live.

Any indication of Duke cheating?

Rare praise from a UG fan, but thanks. Based on this I will not submit any jokes about the St. Johns river flowing north.
The SEC may yet learn to hate Muschamp. If not, UF fans will.
Ditto that! I retract that statement, in fact, I'm a native Georgian and still love my home state. I've just been in Florida much much longer than I was in Georgia Land.
