By fighting, do you mean fighting for? Will Ferrell was annoying the band members with his insistent cowbelling.

Yeah, Farrell is pro cowbell, but Walken is over the top cowbell. The more extreme the greater the humor.
Plus, if Ferrell is a Southern Cal fan, that alone should disqualify him.
