Finance101
Assets - liabilities = equity "net position"
University of Alabama System Financial Statements:
UA
$3,510,601,401 - $1,378,460,048 = $2,132,141,353
UAB
$4,065,877,935 - $1,367,044,775 = $2,698,833,160
UAH
$459,799,623 - $163,271,100 = $296,528,523

LINK
These are 2014 numbers
Seems like UAB has over $1 billion in liabilities too.
This just comes with being a big state university.
It's at all big schools.

I can solve the problem. A state wide crimson tide theme scratch off lotto tickets with the proceeds paying off the debt.

Bama will have some money freed up this year when Saban retires.

As of June 30, 2014 the UT system had current liabilities of $1,034,305,766. What ever will they do!

Assets of a University are usually bloated. What is the true value of Library building in Tuscaloosa ?

They value the assets on an annual basis

Just doing quick Google searches...
Total liabilities for universities in 2014:
Auburn $1,084,795,804
Florida $754,000,000
Kentucky $1,346,869,000
A&M $5,209,000,000
Tennessee $1,182,960,000
LSU $920,213,334
The rest are easily found. These are just 5 minutes of searching.
Like has been stated. These numbers are fairly routine and normal for big state schools.

but singling out Alabama's number make it seem bad.
why do people hate 'Bama as much as they do? Auburn fans need to realize that their school and athletics would not be nearly as good as it is without Alabama and the success and influence it carries in the state.

How a University put a value on a Special Purpose Building in the middle of nowhere. is subjective at best. A building in Downtown Birmingham or Atlanta (GT) compared to the same building in Starkville, MS or Tuscaloosa is like day vs night. But My guess UA and MSU would put equal values on that property.

These numbers are skewed as they show total liabilites, not non-current liabilites (which are long term liabilites).

The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa campus has $1,369,650,127 in liquid assets as of 2014.
I can provide the links, but it's a pdf file. But it is in the earlier link I posted.

What would those liquid assets be ?

cash cash equivalents and liquidity facilities

How are they bloated? A building is recorded at it's cost and then depreciated over a period of time. Are you saying the library is actually impaired and should be written down? If you can prove that all assets at UA are over valued you would have quite the story to tell the media.

What specific facilities or cash equivalent items ? It is easy to throw a number up, especially for a College, but what are the true value. Is their endowment part of their cash equivalent ?
