I guess the peeps putting up the money are the ones that want to call the shots, and that can cause some interesting power struggles when you got an administration set up in the University itself.

Yeah... I think it's just part of the mentality that if someone gives $2 million a year for a coach, he expects to have a direct line to the coach and might think he has a say in some decisions. And even when people agree in theory to "no strings attached", you discover whether or not they meant it pretty quickly.

Do you eat chicken from Tyson's or buy goods shipped with JB Hunt? They are bigger donors to the athletic program than the Waltons.

Same rule.

I won't buy anything from that top notch bird outfit.

Would you refuse to drive a Mercedes because the North American plant is in Tuscaloosa? They donate to The University of Alabama.

Part of Shula (too young ) & Dubose (too connected) problems were they could not keep the boosters at bay the way Saban can

He would be a hard sell to your administration and boosters for sure but, I don't doubt that when BP does get his next gig, he'll be a very changed man. I think you guys will need a coach who is a great rebuilder (Petrino just got ranked #2 in the nation in this category). You guys needing to rebuild may be why Gruden didn't bite? If, and I'll believe it when I see it, he comes to AR, he steps right into an amazing situation. A situation that will allow him to have great success from the start. Then he may leave us for Tenner later.

I just know this, if I had my choice between Petrino and Gruden, I would take Petrino b/c I know for a fact he is a great college coach in the SEC.

The creepy boosters/alums Jerry Jones, the Tyson family is enough to scare me away from the job at Arkansas

When Alabama lost to ULM, it was the height of the mess between the old guard still trying to meddle. Saban was having a hard time with the attitudes of a lot of Shula's recruits, morale was really low, and there were some boosters that were trying to tell him how to handle it. Obviously, the no-meddle faction won out.

No way they make another hire this year. They will promote in house.

The thing with Petrino's personality issues is that there is absolutely no guarantee that with success, he will remain a changed man. People are always contrite with humility, but success to that type of personality is like crack. His issues are characterological, and he'll need more than a couple of years of good PR for people to trust him.

I agree. Coincidentally, when that was happening, there were some rumors that he was unhappy and looking for a new job, and it shut people up pretty quickly.

Certainly not a school that could possibly be looking at four coaches in 5 years.

the only reason this has lingered on so long is because Grud has not come out and said that he will not be the next coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks or was that Saban?

anyway, it has been said that he has agreed in prinicple to a deal which might make sense why ESPN had almost 30 minutes of our Spring game on their Goal Line show today. ESPN has traditionally hated us.

Gruden would make Saban and Miles pee in their panties like little school girls needing a date for the prom.

I like it.

from wiki I like it more

On April 11, 2012, ESPN reported that the Arkansas Razorbacks were interested in talking with Jon Gruden about the possibility of taking over the helm of the Arkansas Razorbacks Football program.

I knew you would chime in with your "inside knowledge". Just like Petrino wasn't being fired. :rotflmao:

These highly succesful coaches could give a shite about rubbing elbows with the old guard. The Butch Davis push being made by the Tyson family is in part motivated in the belief that one of their own (Davis) and he because of that he will give the blue hairs unlimited acess.

There is prolly a faction that was secertly pissed at Petrino pre-scandal because of his stand-offish nature
