However would Dee Hart be considered an alumni since he played? If so, that's double points.

I've never heard of the alumni points being factored into the Fulmer Cup. If so, UF would have won it by a large margin with Aaron Hernandez.

We have had some points that almost counted for us this year with Alvin Kamara and Dee Hart. Almost doesn't win championships, nor the Fulmer Cup.

Oh well, we will probably just retroactively claim the title in 20 years anyway.

You're right, so I believe the updated standings are Ole Miss 4, Alabama 3 and Ohio State 3. I guess we'll see if Georgia qualifies for any with the safety being kicked off.

Couple of clarifications. The sexual assault was perpetrated by the victim's boyfriend who was Hood's friend too. Hood also had heard the friend was in a gang and carried a firearm. He explained that his 13 year old brain feared that trying to stop the assault could get him, his cousin, and others in the house at the time shot.

IIRC, he was able to make amends with his cousin as well. She never blamed him for what happened just the older teen (her then-boyfriend who was 17 and tried as an adult). At first glance, I would never have offered Hood a scholarship but first appearances can be deceiving. While the court documents reveal a situation and graphic acts that I don't care to recall in too great a detail, it's clear that he'd never have done anyone harm of his own initiative and had no foreknowledge or intention of even being a passive witness to rape or an accessory to rape. I don't know what went through his mind while it was happening but a 13 year old who thinks he's just helping with prank on his cousin the way others had been pranked who suddenly finds himself in a situation where things turn into what they did isn't likely to think rationally or even know how to respond. A lot of adults freeze or panic when things happen like that and a particularly immature 13 year old boy who is barely a teenager is more child than teenager and is going to think like one.

That said, given what social services and court evaluators said about his home life, him being removed from his family and sent away to a group home away from his home town, family, and friends was probably a blessing. The picture that was painted of his parents and the adults in his family was not pretty and definitely not an environment a kid should be left in. It's telling that he went from a particularly immature child who court evaluators thought was very much at risk of being extremely unlikely and/or impossible to rehabilitate (they did not have high hopes for him when they were evaluating him for the courts to put it lightly) to a young adult with an outstanding ACT score, high GPA, good behavior record and glowing reviews by his teachers and high school coaches after being removed from his home environment. He flourished once he was away from them.

I know what it's "name" is. But the "fact" remains that the cup has never resided in knoxville, so it cannot "return." "Get" it?

This may be the most embarrassingly bad use of quotations I have ever seen on the rant.

Fulmer Cup seems to be dying off. What was the website that came up with it? Seems like very little effort was put into last year.

Every Day Should be Saturday (EDSBS) is the site your thinking of. And last year's cup was vacated. Vanderbilt was the winner due to the rape case, but EDSBS backtracked and quickly vacated the title.

Looks like they may have been warned by the alleged rape victim's family of a potential lawsuit.

The rape victim would have no legal standing on something that is a matter of public record and does not list her name. There's no way to claim that she's being defamed in any way - I can't think of any tortured/creative logic that could come close to supporting any claim against them on her behalf. Ironically, the accused rapists have more legal standing than she does and they could threaten to sue -- doubt they could win since this cup is all about publicly available info, and arrests not convictions, but they'd have standing to file.

Vanderbilt itself might have a case to bring a suit but it wouldn't hold up. However, if any kind of shenanigans were at play it's more likely wealthy boosters with money to burn are threatening them with suits that would never stand up in court but could cost $$$ to defend and get tossed. Even more likely is that they just chickened out because someone sent them a threatening letter -- probably just a fan -- but most likely of all is that there's no shenanigans involved and that for some dumbass reason known only to them they decided Vandy should be treated differently.

Really though, the Fulmer Cup has become something no one really owns anymore. It's become a game for us fans to keep tally on and rib one another about. Not many people even bother visiting the various sites but almost all of us tease one another about it.

Damon Evans earned UGA 5 points for the "red panty debacle." Precedence has been set for Coaches, Players, and Athletic Directors to earn Fulmer Cup points.

You do recall correctly. She wrote a letter to UT basically saying she didn't blame him and that he shouldbe judged on his actions since then, not on one terrible night.

Really, that says more about him and what happened than any court filings. Still, it's pretty amazing she had the strength to do that. Even though he didn't assault her it would be understandable if she hated him or just said nothing. I'm glad she's healing (I don't know if I'd be strong enough to write on someone's behalf even if I didn't blame them directly) and that the family is healing from such an awful event.
