Those parking garages have ALWAYS been a part of the plan. Going back over a decade there have been plans to put garages there. Vision 2020 had garages there, old old renderings the AD had had garages there. Love 'em, hate 'em, they're going to be there.

I really don't know how Arkansas tailgating is but that list is shite. Its from 2011 and there are several schools on there that have no business in the top 20.

I'm no expert on the angle of sun light at different hours, but my initial guess is that I don't think an awning on the East Stands would really provide that much shade for most games.
Starting at 2:30pm, the angle of the sun would likely shine underneath the awning anyways, leaving the awning as nothing more than a cosmetic feature.
At most I would think the awning would provide shade for the top deck for the 1st half during 11am games.
However, the awning on the West Stands would provide complete shade for every game starting at 2:30 or later.

An awning of the student side would accomplish jack shite. It would be like a wakeboard tower on a bass boat. An awning blocks sunlight from directly above or behind you. When the angle is right in your face (which is the angle at any afternoon kick at Kyle) it does nothing.

Looks a lot better aesthetically. Not flaming at all, but the exterior of Kyle Field looks like shite at the moment. No character to it. The renovations will dress it up and make it look a lot better. Although those damn tackle box decks are still there.
