Article

"Five years ago, Alabama and LSU hijacked the 2011 college football season, staging not one but two No. 1 vs. 2 games, the latter marking the beginning of the end for the ill-fated BCS. Most of the public outside the Southeast revolted at not just the rematch but seemingly dinosaur offenses.

However, a staggering 45 eventual NFL draft picks – including 14 first-rounders – played in those games. The teams were that good.

I’m predicting a near-repeat scenario in 2016."

"Near-repeat" meaning, not exactly the same. I predict retribution.

I predict LSU will have a new coach in 2017.

that stupid committee will not do that. it doesn't matter how good any two teams are, they will not pick two from a conference. That is why they exist in the first place...

and with Lloyd the Turd Carr on there, no way LSU gets a break

Two from the same conference will not happen. Especially two from the same division

Just depends on the rest of the country. In '11 it was a joke how much better those teams were than everyone else.

They got half right (Bama will be in the playoff for the 3rd year in a row.)

It was a damn shame the LSU players couldn't get motivated to prove they were one of if not the best college football team ever assembled. How did anyone expect them to get up to play a team they already beat during the season even if the game was virtually a home game for them?

Other than "they'll both be 11-1", he doesn't give any real reason why the playoffs would have two SEC teams.

The only scenario I see with two SEC teams is if the West and East have a game where one team wins by a slim margin, they meet after no other losses in the SECCG, and the team that lost wins by another slim margin (say, 3 points each game in OT or such). Then you have two 11-1 teams, one with an SEC title the other with at least a divisional title, and a 1-1 split prior to the playoffs.

Considering 2011 was one of the reasons they took their current approach (a committee instead of the combined polls), it stands to reason that they will avoid this at all cost.

Yes but with the current system they can allow two teams from the same conference because there are two other teams also in contention. My guess is if that ever happens they will seed them to meet in the semifinals. They don't want an all SEC final.

You are the reason this board needs an "ignore user" function.

This is a pathetic attempt to draw SEC fans to Fox Sports.

Not likely, but if LSU runs the table, Bama's only loss is close to LSU, and 2 of the other P5 champs have 2 losses, it WILL happen. But, it is likely they will do the rematch in the semis not for the natty.
