Simmons won't win player of the year. There are more veteran guys in the ACC and B1G that the media love

Simmons was the #1 basketball recruit, projected #1 NBA draft pick, and pre-season SEC player of the year.

Interesting he's going to college - seems like lately the best ones go straight to the draft. Or did they change that recently? Admittedly, I watch the games but don't follow much beyond that. Even if he does declare in 2016, LSU should utilize that year and have a real shot at the Final Four.

Lange is a potential 1/1 pick in the MLB draft in a couple years.

Smart kid too - 4.0 GPA in high school. Interesting he wasn't rated THAT highly (still good, but apparently around 50-ish among RHP coming out of HS). Checking his numbers, has great control. I'd love to see if he pans out in the majors.

Thanks for the info - reading up on them as well. Should be interesting. Obviously, Lange is also a big impact, but as a pitcher will not have as much impact on his team that Simmons does.

Skal won't go #1 over Simmons. That would be almost as crazy as Perkins going over MJ in '84.

Perhaps but he'll be FOTY, an All-American, and win the award that really counts...the #1 overall pick in the draft.

How many GMs do you have that level of conversation with to know what they are thinking?

By all accounts, Simmons would have been #1 last year straight out of HS if that was still allowed.

In that case I dunno about baseball but OU had Bradford win the Heisman in 08 and Griffin win National POY in 08-09

They had a pitcher that plays for the Angels now that went 42nd overall that year. Pretty impressive. Not a big name guy, but he had to have been pretty highly thought of. I closed out the window with his name and I don't remember it.

how is that true when he's not even the unanimous #1 overall pick right now?

He didn't "have to go" to
College like most U.S. Basketball players. He's from Australia and had plenty of options to play professional before going to the draft.

He chose LSU because he knows Johnny Jones is the second coming of Coach K and that Keith Horsby is Steph Curry but with better athleticism.

This why you guys melt so hard. You start proclaiming crap when you don't consider any other looming factors. You do realize those awards for the most part are popularity contest don't you? Well who are the most popular programs in basketball? Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, Michigan State. I would say that if Simmons doesn't have astounding numbers that separates him from all other freshmen, a freshman at one of the more popular basketball schools would win it.

Wait...wut? There is no unanimous #1 pick right now. It's all projections and you can google those projections and like 80% of them show Simmons.

Only way he doesn't win it is he blows his knee out next week, god forbid. Even if that were to happen he probably would have a 50% shot of winning it. The only person that could have challenged him went down 2 weeks ago.

Those schools win a lot of those awards because they attract the best talent. He's the #1 recruit and he's going to have eyes on him, regardless of who he plays for.

Barring injury, I cannot see a situation (other than Les going fully insane and throwing 50 passes a game) where he fails to win it at this point. Even a loss to Alabama and a sub-100 yard game against us (which, before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, is not something I'm saying will happen), he still has A&M (who has problems against the power running game) and a couple of other games to earn his trophy.

So, unless he gets hurt, I think it's his. Heck, he's such a huge favorite he's not even worth betting money on.
