Why would Saban feel the need to even go after Freeze or Durkin?
That's the thing, he doesn't have to.
This is one thing Finebaum might actually take him to task.

Durkin going to run those boys to death.

Saban is an arse for this one, I can understand second chances but not Durkin, he is a pos.

Maybe. I have serious doubts that Durkin's tactics were all that different from those at most major programs. Few of the things described sound like something that wouldn't be accepted at any SEC program had a kid not died. That and the fact that Durkin/the PT guy seemed to have no ability to relate to the players seem to be what did him in. Maybe there are incidents I missed, but it all sounded like a perfect storm of everything going wrong rather than an outlier program gone wild.

When you add in players they've also taken in domestic abusers, thieves, and drug addicts and have also protected players who have committed violent muggings, felony level assaults(Sabans daughter as well for this one), drug dealers, and carried firearms illegally

But they're still the first ones to say something about Auburn taking Cam and Marshall

I'll admit I cringe at some of Saban's consultant/analyst choices. Then I see the product he consistently puts on the field and I know there's a method to the madness. i.e. Lane Kiffin

Saban would hire the ghost of Ted Bundy if it meant he’d win a game

It's a terrible look for Bama especially if it's permanent. And for what? It's not like they need him.
Why even bring that scrutiny on your program.

Look, at some point, Durkin probably will get another chance. But the emotions of that whole deal are still to recent.

Bama in becoming the Maxwell AFB Minimum Security Prison for ousted coaches. You get to pay your debt to society, but you are not too uncomfortable.

Consultants are off the field positions with no contact with players.
He's basically just breaking down film.

All the pearl clutching is a little funny because there's really nothing to clutch your pearls about. But I get it, Alabama wins a lot and you hate Alabama...blah blah blah.

What he got fired for (their Booard of Trustees originally retained him once the investigation was over) is not a position he's at Alabama for.

I wonder how Jordan McNair's parents feel about this hire? What about other parents recruits?

quote:

After McNair's death, ESPN questioned current and former players for Maryland football as well as people close to the program, going on to publish an investigative report on August 10, 2018.[12] In the report, ESPN found evidence of a toxic culture instilled by the coaching staff led by head coach D.J. Durkin and strength and conditioning coach Rick Court,[12] who Durkin had once called his "most important hire" in an interview shortly after accepting the position of head coach in December 2015.
