No one is immune from it Bama. Look at Florida, Tennessee, Nebraska etc. Perhaps a more apt comparison is when we hired Billy Gillispie to coach our basketball team. Talk about a disaster. Reality is EVERYONE is going to be a step down from Saban. Mentally prepare yourselves for mortality.

Tennessee might've worked 3-4 years ago. But this board is known for living in the past.

Not so sure about that. NIL + transfer portal has taken all of the advantages away from the blue bloods.

It was going to happen sometime but the timing is not great. Changes are a coming and right fast in CFB...those on top the next 3-6 years are going to have a serious leg up in NIL space etc. Taking a step back in those 3-6 years could leave one in a position to play catchup for 10-15.

I have jokingly posted several times about Alabama folks never being able to retire because they've spent a fortune going to SEC CGs and 2 bowl games a season for a looooonnnnngggg time. The same goes for big money boosters....they got their nickels worth and then some over the last 17? years and I am sure they will continue to pony up in kind for a new hire...but if that new hire struggles 2-3 years in a row even the big money may get weary....never a good time for your financier to take a wait and see attitude but it can be really bad in an era of unrest and upheaval...what happened in the past may or may not happen in the future. Probably will, but the timing ain't great

For a few years...and then the blue bloods will do what they have always done and that is outbid the others. If you weren't at the top of around the top most of your history nothing about NIL or the portal is going to change that....Its just going to cost more

You think that will satisfy Alabama fans? An occasional 10 win season. Look at the coaches after Bryant: Perkins, Shula, Franchoine, Curry (Dodged Bullets with Mike Price and Rich Rod). Perkins was the head coach at the Giants, hand picked by the Bear, never had a chance.

10-3 today is probably a 9-3 regular season and a trip to Orlando. Or a 10-2 regular season and losing in the SEC CG and winning some meaningless bowl game to go 10-3. Alabama fans ain't having none of that for long. Thats also 9-10 wins against at least 2 if not 3 rent a wins most seasons even with conference realignment.

keep thinking it’s “Alabama” and not the coaching.

That idea was hatched yesterday at what, about 630 PM? Prior to that it was all about the coaching....

Shhh, they still think they are the only ones that can compensate all the 5 stars to come to Bama effectively.

Not trolling but is Alabama well heeled without Saban and the success over the last 17 years? I know that is hard to quantify because they did have that success but one has to question its sustainability given the amount of money it had to cost and the very real possibility that they take a minor step backward and an outside possibility that they take a serious step backward. I am certain that whoever is hired will receive a similar amount of support that Saban received...for 2-3 years. But if there is a couple of 7 and 8 win seasons or worse in those 3 years???? No matter how much money one has when they are being asked to write multi-million $ checks they ask "is this worth the money"? If it is...if you haven't taken a significant step backwards...the answer is yes. If you have taken a significant step backwards...many of those check writers are either going write a smaller check, beg off, or demand more personal bang for their bucks and not just success on the field. The timing is not great.

Not sure I understand why a lot of people feel this way. 'bama has everything they need to be a great football team right now except a coach. What makes y'all think that 'bama will not hire a great coach and just pick up where they left off?

The only Alabama coach that didn't post at least 1 10 win season since 1919 was JB Whitworth who coached from 1955-1957.

I think we'll be ok.

Why do so many people believe that what has happened in the past will dictate what will continue to happen in the future.

The game has changed drastically in the past 15 years or so and has very little in common to the game today. Just because something happened a certain way in the 1950s, it does not mean it will continue to happen the same way today.

76-31-1 (.710). Better win percentage than any other SEC team all-time
____________________________________________________________

Good work ! I showed my bias by wanting to leave out the championship season of 1992. Shame on me! A better check would be all the years between Bear and Saban, 1983-2006. I don't think any Bama fans were happy with 4 5-loss, 2 6-loss, 2 7-loss, 1 8-loss and 1 9-loss seasons in 24 years..

99% of posters are actually LSU fans and they can't comprehend that college football existed before 1999

Alabama has won at least one SEC championship in every decade of the conference’s history. They’ve got more national championship winning coaches than most schools have titles. They’re the second winningest program in CFB history.

Yes, all will be ok. The unparalleled success of the last 15 years will never be matched, though. ‘‘Twas a great time to be a Tide fan.
