I bet a good number of under 25 year olds on here might try to say saban is the best coach they've had.

The young ones that think Saban is king in Bammerland have no clue.

Saban rants and raves about the fans questioning his every move.

Nobody questioned Bear...ever. That was a high crime. If Bear had announced they were playing blindfolded and in high heels, then by God there must be a winning strategy behind it.

Bear could have been the Governor of Alabama at anytime he had wanted to run for office.

Younger fans have no idea at how much power a coach could wield back in the day.

Truer words were never spoken. When Bill Clinton was Governor of Arkansas he used to refer to Frank Broyles (former Arkansas head coach and AD) as the most powerful man in the state. And he wasn't kidding.

I'm almost 28 and he's by far the best we've had since I've been alive.

I'll miss Les. He's another original character. I like LSU as a second favorite team mainly because of Les Miles.

Saban is so "all business", its easy to admire his results, but wont miss him as a personality in the league as much.

I'm sure they do hate him as Spurrier only lost to Kentucky like 4 times and all were at South Carolina

20-3 vs UK

Kentucky hates Spurrier because he made it a personal goal to beat Bill Curry's brains in whenever he could - and he did.
Spurrier didn't hate Kentucky - he resented Curry all the way back to when Curry refused to talk to any of Pepper Rodgers' assistants after BC was hired Tech.

the irony now...Kentucky fans actually hate Curry worse than Spurrier ever did. ran him out of Lexington.

Exactly!

No way an Alabama governor would have ever crossed Bear publicly. That would be political suicide.

Bear was the only man in Alabama that was loved more than George Wallace.

If any young Gumps actually put Saban over Bryant...I'm surprised the population hasn't had them sterilized and destroyed.

Bryant was greatness on a level Saban will never know. BB could kick your dick in the dirt for 60 minutes, then walk over and invite you to his house for supper (or at least a bag of GF chips) and remember EVERY ONE of your kids' names and ages.
He loved Alabama, and never forgot aTm.

He was the southern gent you couldn't hate, no matter how hard you tried. Taking an arse-whipping from him was just part of being an LSU fan, and we lost one of our greatest coaches ever cuz some high-powered alums got greedy.

Saban is a hired assassin, nothing more. No love for anyone but football and himself. and $.

Saban didn't arrive at Alabama until the year after I graduated from UA. So it doesn't seem like he's been there long. But I know he's only got 5 or so years left. As much as he's accomplished, and can still accomplish in the coming years, he won't pass Bryant.

I don't think that's completely true anymore. He has roots in central Alabama. More so than any other coaching stop he's made.

This will be stranger. I don't see Les or Saban waiting to retire until they are essentially asked to retire. I think both take too much pride in the work that they do. I am actually surprise Spurrier didn't hang it up last season. He is not senile he knew what team he had coming back.

SavageOrangeJug- you obviously aren't old enough to remember the Bear either. I was only 8 or 9 but I remember talk of him being all washed up in the late 60's. Even in the early-mid 70's folk's were saying he couldn't win the big one anymore. It probably wasn't until 1978 that he reclaimed the glory from the mid 60's. He was openly criticized until then. Not much after though.

A faint memory? You are 20 years old. Im 23 and I don't remember a single game when Spurrier was at FL.

Pretty much. I really REALLY got into LSU football and never payed much attention to him until he coached SCAR.

Exactly how I was. I'm 20, also, but ever since falling in love with CFB I've done my research on him at UF and in the NFL, but still don't know anything compared to the older posters.

I don't know about Les but I think Saban might leave if he can run the NCAA. He wants to be in the spot light and make a difference in the game. But, right now he's chasing the Bear for 6 NC's (2 more).

Saban won't be strange to me. His tenure will be legendary but it feels like he hasn't been at Bama that long (yes, I'm old). Miles feels like an institution at LSU. It will be weird to see him go.

I actually agree with you. It doesn't seem like Saban has been there as long as he has but I wonder if that's because Bama went through too many coaches to keep up with before Saban finally settled in (sort of like we have lately). Miles, OTOH, does feel like he's been there forever.

That said, I can't wait to use Bear's words about Neyland's retirement when Saban finally goes. "Thank God, the old bastard finally quit!"

I've always liked Shiny Pants, but I remember him getting his in 2008 when Urban beat South Car 63-6. Amusing to see him get a dose of his own medicine.

How does Bama's D taste? You do realize Bryant was one of the greatest cheaters of all time, right? He admitted to buying players in a 1966 interview with SI. And he left A&M because they didn't help him cheat well enough. That's documented shite right there.

Take it from an Old Man that was actually alive and met the Bear. He was criticized but the media pretty much controlled everything back in the day. Now, during Saban's tenure there are so many ways to publicly criticize a coach and bypass the media. No way to hide it.
