You do realize “blue blood” status can erode over time, right?

Imagine making the argument you did and just being absolutely clueless about what you’re talking about lol

I would trade the last 30 years of LSU football with the last 30 years of Notre Dame football in a hearbeat, and it isn't particularly close.

that still doesn't make LSU a blue blood program.

also B1G >>> SEC.....8 blue blood programs vs only 3. ACC also has as many blue blood programs as the overrated SEC

Who gives a shite about a stupid arse label like “blueblood” when your program hasn’t amounted to shite in the BCS/Playoff era in CFB?

Are you trying to fill the roll of the board resident dipshit with the edgy takes?

Considering Iowa and Illinois blueblood programs might be the most retarded thing I’ve seen posted on this board in a decade.

I don’t think LSU fans claim that LSU is a blue blood, so not sure why you’re thinking this a big gotcha.

despite alot of hype and bloviating, the LSU football program only has a lowly tally of 4 national titles. However, true blue blood programs must have a minimum of 5 titles

I’ll start by saying that I am an LSU fan and do not consider the Tigers to be a “blue blood” program, though we are right on the cusp ranked in the 8-12 range.

Your qualification of “a minimum of 5 national titles” is arbitrary and doesn’t have as much meaning as you claim. There are many other factors that go into it including total victories,
Bowl victories, yearly finishes in rankings, conference championships, Heisman trophy winners, all-Americans, etc. Many of those factors are greatly influenced by subjectivity (polls, awards being voted on, media bias) and the differing levels of competition.

Since you made this to seeming taunt LSU, I’d say of the teams you listed that Alabama,
Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State and probably Oklahoma and Nebraska are reasonably above LSU. Miami’s peak years were certainly dominating, but outside of that 25 year period they have little other history.

Finally, I’ll throw in that if you’re using Alabama metrics for counting National titles, that LSU’s number should be at least six including 1908 and 2011 where they were awarded championships by “at least one recognized NCAA” selecting organization.

'blue blood' doesn't have the same meaning as 'better'. and disgruntled LSU fans will have to accept that those programs are more blue blood than theirs.

this ancient term blue blood really has to go away, because what 18 year old prospect can name more than 5 players off any Illinois or Minnesota team from the past 10-20 years

Look these up. Vast majority are a joke. 76 is the only real legitimate one.

Excellent thread, OP. The term blue blood gets thrown around way too casually these days - particularly amongst fans of non-blue bloods.

some bogus titles in there

Yep, the majority are from a bunch of computer polls created 50-100+ years after the fact.

In reality a lot of these teams (Iowa, Cal, Pitt, Illinois...) have zero titles and Tenn has just two.

AP/Coaches/BCS/CFP or it did'nt happen.

The term split national championship is in reference to AP/Coaches polls, not Eco-class/Berryman.

Only 1 team (on that list) has any semblance of superiority to LSU, the past 25 years

Alabama

Gees, I wish all the dumb threads about being a 'blue blood' program would just cease and go away.

After winning the NC 2 seasons ago and the year before that, not one single time did me and my crowd stop the celebration and say; "Hey...everyone stop the celebration, we can't be getting excited, we are NOT a blue blood program!! Everyone go home!"

It's just silly....

Not sure if it’s said but 99% of school’s would claim LSU’s 1908 season. We went 10-0 and outscored everyone like 100-3 that’s the only time we’ve been voted #1 I wish LSU would recognize. Would give us 5 indisputable titles.

I’ve been alive for the Bryant through Saban eras, to the beginning of the Deboer era. I don’t care how you determine what is a legitimate national championship: polls, BCS, playoffs…. For the polls it was just consensus opinion of voters and they generally got it right, with a few that were sketchy.

I don’t care how you measure it or determine legit national titles, but Bama has been the dominant college football power of the last 100 years. It’s documented and indisputable. Argue all you want, but you’re just the equivalent of old man screams at clouds.
