So...Muschamp didn't ruin Florida, they just had a regression to the mean? Interesting theory. Let's see how McElwain does. If he's closer to 58% wins then I think it's plausible.

Sounds like he's a brilliant defensive coordinator and you're in great hands.

State of Florida as a whole had a massive population Boom from the 60s through the 80s- which not coincidentally is when the state burst on the scene in college football going from playing in 0 national title games, much less winning any to playing in roughly half of the national title games from 1980 through the present day and winning roughly 1/3.

Florida would have exploded in the 1980s like Miami and FSU but was delayed 5 years or so by the SEC deciding the Gators playing by the same rules as Bama and AU was cheating and stripping us of a conference title as well as putting us on probation, in the 90s things changed dramatically.

Put it this way since 1990 Florida has more SEC and National titles than Auburn has in its history as a program.

Basically, your hypothesis is that Will Muschamp is such a crappy coach that he was able to undo 20 years of progress? I mean damn, that's harsher than most Florida fans- Boom Muschamp: sets programs back 20 years!

Auburn's overall winning percentage before Bo Jackson was .56289, so what does that tell you?

I don't think any Florida fan will claim we were great before the 90's. Our success came when the state blew up population wise (just like Miami and FSU). Sure, Muschamp was about what we'd expect as a HC back in the day, but we're not back in the day anymore, are we? Which basically means SEC frickeddd once UF gets a competent HC in place, whether that be McElwain or someone else.

Florida was a great state before it became overpopulated.

We were pretty good in the 80's too. That was when the program really was getting traction as a strong team then the off the field issues happened. But the population thing is the reason. When UF started playing football there were more Alligators in Gainesville than humans. Once the population of Florida really came up, the talent came with it. Miami, FSU, and UF have accounted for pretty much half of the national title games in some manner. Those three have played in more than any other state, and been accountable for more title game appearances or misses than any other game. Since 1980, CFB has gone through the South, but the main group being the state of Florida.

Seriously, that the defense of Muschamp is "he set the program back 20 years." is kind of staggering, I mean why would anyone view that as something other than an indictment.

That equates to 7.54 wins for a 13 game schedule. Rounding up...

He'll fit in fine at AU as they are looking at several 8-5's in a row.

Yeah, Florida was heading in this direction until sanctions derailed the 80's. But UF has been a good program since 1980.

Muschamp was garbage as a head coach.

fricking. Garbage.

And everyone knows it.

this

he had at least 2 fluff games a year, maybe even 3 most years

and that does not count Vandy and KY

that is a minimum of EIGHT "gimmie" wins

boom was 28 - 20

put him in the 70's or 80's and 'ole Boom was a .500 coach

UF deserves better
