Supposedly our guy is Clancy Pendergast. His resume is pretty good, actually. He isn't as experienced as the Chief, but also isn't as old. Like I've said over and over in other threads, Chavis is getting older and isn't a cyborg, so we have to replace him sometime anyway. After last year and some poor performances/blowing games late this year (MSU, ND, Bama, Auburn) maybe Alleva thought we should go ahead and do it

If you guys want to see melting, find me if we hire Mike Stoops. This isn't melting.

It was reported on that Alleva said he wasn't budging from the offer. For an AD to not do what he can to keep a top DC, he has to have a solid backup plan, a personal problem with the guy, or both. I don't have a subscription to any of the pay sites, but thats where they were saying Alleva and Chavis were at odds apparently

So now age is the excuse? He's six years younger than Saban. Saban's last six years weren't too bad.

Or paying Chavis hurt his bottom line and incentives in his contract to hit certain marks. How old are you? You seem pretty naive to how the real world works.

Age, some clause in his contract, his third down rate (which was like 13th in the country), his defensive philosophy and his recruiting ability have all been the common excuses for "letting him go"

It's not a moral victory. We literally just did it.

And what does that mean? You'll have to wait until at least November to claim a real victory on the scoreboard. It's something you guys have done in four tries this decade. You are aware that's what we ultimately track?

They really are running the gambit in the melt. Has anyone of them just said, "hey we won't be as good without him and it sucks that we couldn't afford him"? Because if they can't admit that they might be simultaneously convincing themselves they'll win a natty next year. I can't wait for a preseason win over Sam Houston State that lead to the inevitable LSU is going to win it all threads. The swamp kittens truly are a fascinating bunch. Their delusion isn't the strongest but it is surely the strangest.

We might not be as good. Then again, we might be better. LSU's defense was a dumpster fire in games that mattered for a year and a half. Got better toward second half of season, then sucked again in bowl game. LSU has lost six games in the last two minutes in the last three years.

Do you really think LSU couldn't afford to match? LSU has the fifth most-valuable football program in the country, and it's surely not sweating less than $400K.

I'm fine with Alleva calling Chavis' bluff. I wish he would have done it with Miles two years ago because nobody in their right fricking mind is going to leave LSU to go to Arkansas to be head coach.

I'm glad there's new blood on the defensive side and if it doesn't work out, then they'll be new blood on the head coaching side within a couple of years. And we're long overdue for that.

You had a top ten defense, the best defense in the conference, held Ole Miss to 7 and Bama to 13 in regulation. You will absolutely not outperform that next year. That's beyond stupid.

Plenty people live in houses they can't afford. I think that your pockets aren't as deep as A&M's and your AD probably could have come up with the money if they tried their hardest but they couldn't do that because "affording something" isn't the same as being able to pay for it.

Again it is. There are a litany of programs that can throw out more money than LSU. Notre Dame, USC, tu, A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan. Recent valuations of LSU will be high because of the months leading up to 1/9, but in the last three years, you have been spare.

Because you don't like accepting the alternative. Was Alleva planning for this to happen? Why doesn't he have someone else lined up already? Why weren't you in on the Muschamp sweepstakes if you are a top 5 "valuable" program? Would he not have been an upgrade?

You are really, really mad

I would ask where on the doll LSU touched you, but it's pretty obvious

We weren't in on Muschamp because that ship had sailed by the time Chavis decided he was out. Alleva mistakenly thought Chavis would accept his extension. Did he take Chavis for granted? Yes. But he decided the bidding war wasn't worth it. At $1.7 million, Chavis isn't worth it.

And I know you're an Aggie so you struggle with reading comprehension. But I said LSU's defenses sucked for a year and a half. All of 2013, first half of 2014. Did you not watch the Miss. State and Auburn games, which occured in the FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON? Auburn game over at halftime, State game was pretty much done until Mullen went full retard in the last seven minutes.

Congrats on holding one-dimensional Ole Miss (no running game) to seven points and Alabama to 13. But in the Bama game, Chavis' defense allowed game-tying FG drive on last series of regulation and a score on first play of overtime. Two years earlier, his prevent defense against Bama prevented LSU from winning with the lead in hand.

Nor did I not allow for the possibility that LSU's defense may be worse in 2015. It very well could be worse. So be it. If that hastens Miles' departure, I'm for it. I'm not an Aggie so I don't feel satisfied after a minor bowl victory and a sixth-place finish in the West. You guys let me know when you play in a major bowl again because it hasn't happened in a long, long time. It's been three years since LSU has been relevant, and that's too damn long, especially when the head coach's offensive philosophy is stuck in 1975.

Chavis without Raymond is like peanut butter with out jelly. Clumpy and not easily swallowed without milk

They just paid 1.7 million for half a product

They've been top 10 in the country in total defense two of the last three years

They are in for a rude awakening if they think that "sucks"
