USC pulled in the 2nd ranked recruiting class two years ago, and has had a top 10 class every year except for 1 since Pete Carroll left the program. Nebraska is fortunate when they end up with a top 25 class. They are definitely not on the same level.
Definitely not. The facilities alone at USC put them in the top tier. Not to mention a bad arse stadium.

Not really,I'd put 6 to 7 SEC schools ahead of them as far as facilities.
USC gets top tier status because of their access to talent, tradition and geography.

People need to realize that Nebraska isn't like the rest of the blue blood programs. It's never had easy access to fertile recruiting grounds.
The program was built on an immense walkon program, county scholarship program, and two tremendous coaches with an eye for undervalued talent. The reduction of scholarships in the 80s and 90s, and cutting of the county scholarship program caught up to Nebraska by the time Solich was head coach. Callahan wrecked the walkon program and the rest is history. Those undervalued Nebraska kids don't fawn over walking on at NU anymore. They take scholarship opportunities at South Dakota, SDSU, and NDSU.

I agree with Finebaum, actually. USC isn't a top tier job anymore. It's on the same level as Nebraska now.
No. USC would need to be in the dog house for at least another 10 years to get where Nebraska is. And then I still think it would be a better place to coach than Nebraska. USC has a brand that is closely linked to LA and Hollywood. Players will always want to go there. It will always be easy to recruit.

USC is the only team that can rival Bama and Ohio state recruiting. It's a top tier job

I don't know about the rest of their facilities, but the Coliseum is a dump in desperate need of renovation, and the school is located in a very bad part of town. Helton gets paid $3.8 million, which certainly isn't top tier, and all the Pac-12 schools have a reputation for being cheap when it comes to coaching pay (factor in the high cost of living out there, and it's even less competitive than it looks).
Stanford and UCLA are better schools in better locations. I've always been amazed that UCLA hasn't blow past USC given their advantages, but they are evidently even cheaper than USC (and may be handicapped a little by the Rose Bowl being so far from campus).
USC is a lot like Miami--they will always have the possibility of putting together great talent, but besides the geography and history, they don't have nearly as many advantages as some folks think. There are probably a dozen or more programs that have equal access to talent, but better facilities and financial support. So, does that make USC top tier? If so, it's a pretty large tier.

Nah its still a horrible state for recruiting
"undervalued" or not its still a a bad stiuation for recruiting.
Tommy Frazier was from Florida I believe and Lawrence Phillips was from Ca. And lets not forget they had their far share of bad actors from the '95 and '96 era.

USC is a top tier job, but the reputation of it being one of the greats has gone down some. It is still one of the greats, though.
USC can be turned around, but often times top tier jobs need a top tier coach.

Not seeing it. When he was shaking his head, it was almost as if he was indicating an answer to a question a producer in his ear was asking more so than in sync with Paul's comments.
I'm sure Pollack disagreed with Finebaum, but it didn't look like he had "issues".

Define top tier. If it's top ten percent, then no, USC isn't a top tier job. I can name 12 to 13 that are better jobs right now. The problem is that, from a perception standpoint, a top tier job should attract a top tier coach, and for various reasons, USC hasn't done that.
Things can change quickly. Alabama wasn't a top tier job in 2003 or 2006...then suddenly it was.
Elite tradition and a huge talent pool aren't enough to make it a top tier job today, in 2016. You have to factor in a shitty stadium, recent administrative instability, and only tied for the 20th highest salary in the country. Ten SEC schools pay as much or more. Hell, Mississippi State pays Mullen a cool $1,000,000 more than USC pays.

USC is a good school. It's in Southern California. A rich history of Heisman winners, championships, and NFL draft picks.
They just need a competent coach. Kiffin was a train wreck. Sarkisian was a drunk. And the new guy doesn't know what he's doing as evidenced by how unprepared USC had been all season.
Tom Osborne didn't have any trouble getting top recruits to Nebraska while he was there...nor Bob Devaney before him...
Kiffin has had his issues as a head coach but while he was head man at USC, they were dealing with pretty severe scholarship reductions due to the Reggie Bush violations...as well as the NCAA allowing current juniors and seniors to transfer without losing eligibility prior to his first year coaching. Don't think there are many coaches who could've done much in the years he was there...

USC certainly is a top tier job. Alabama, Texas, Ohio St., Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame will always be top tier jobs
Miami has NOT been a top tier job in 20 years. Butch Davis and Mark Richt were good hires and took the jobs because of their previous connections to the program. Butch had no HC experience and looming sanctions scared off top candidates. Richt and Dennis Erickson may be the only guys that Miami has hired that were truly the guy they wanted. Even Howard Schnellenberger and Jimmy Johnson were not UM's first choice.
