By your logic any attempt to pick off is a poor decision because you don't have to. If he executed the throw, was it still poor decision? Fact is pick off attempts are part of the game. A pick off attempt could be a great decision, even if you throw it in the dugout. And throwing it away in that situation could be because of lack of focus, or physically just a crappy throw. Now please stop arguing about it.

It's not black and white, like you're trying to infer. This is real life, not a cartoon.
When you take an unnecessary risk, like attempting a pickoff, and then make a mistake doing it, that's a mental error.

Only if you believe the world is black and white. There are situations to attempt a pickoff. When you're down 7-3, with no one out, that's not the right time to do it.
ETA: Not to mention the 2 hole hitter was up, so the chances of catching the runner leaning was slim considering there was a good chance they were bunting him over. If it were the 3-4-5 holes up then I wouldn't have a problem with it as none of those are likely to bunt, therefore a steal attempt is more likely.

Are the announcers not watching the game? They just said great defense all around in a game that has had about 7 errors
