And the interior upgrades are going to be significantly. It'll drop capacity a little bit but it'll be worth it for the suites and things like recruiting rooms/areas.

they will also upgrade Nutter Fieldhouse, our indoor facility, that often hosts the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships so everybody benefits.

on second look the limestone only goes up about 10 feet high. then its the fake siding.
The first 10 feet look like traditional KY river rock you see in the rock walls and hosing stock in the area. The smooth surface above may be the actual limestone and looks more like the smooth facade on the old federal building downtown and the new courthouses. Color can run between white / grey to tan / light brown so it would make sense. Would be good to know for sure tho, good question, will try and find an answer.

Because EVERY program has declines in attendance in bad years and every program has rises in attendance in good years.
South Carolina and Kentucky were usually the exceptions in selling well even in the bad years. Until Joker took over UK was usually in the Top 25 in attendance in the country year after year. Since Joker took over the decline was sharp and unusual. Probably why UK has now moved to upgrade things and get back to where they were in attendance.

I was at UK during the Brooks years. Football games were awesome. That place was rocking. Not only did Joker suck the life out of the team, he sucked the life out of the fans. They say a team carries the same attitude of the coach. Well I think the fans do, too. Joker sure seemed like he didn't give a shite 99% of the time, so did the team, and the fans followed suit. I planned to make it back for a home game this season, but work wouldn't allow it. Maybe next season when they're a little better.

Mitch Barnhart is killing our football program. Between hiring Joker Phillips and this renovation abomination, our program is now back to the 1980s. Maybe his plans are to get us moved to the ACC or AAC. He definitely has no clue what it takes to compete in the SEC.

I'm no Barnhart fan, but how can you say these renovations are a bad thing?

Lord knows I've given Barnhart his fair amount of shite but I hardly see this renovation as an "abomination". And we're certainly not set back to the 80s.

Theyll make the empty seats look even prettier

Looks pretty, but doesn't the bowl seem kind of shallow? What I mean is that far from being steep, the stands seem to rise too gradually, placing the fans unecessarily too far from the field and with poor sight lines.

It does look shallow in the rendering, but it's really not IRL. It's not exactly steep either, though.

That's quite the asinine post.
I can understand the dislike of the Joker hire, but this renovation is desperately needed. Furthermore, it's hard for Mitch to put a winning program together when half of our backwards fans wont even support the football team or anything even remotely related to it.

Sight lines aren't bad in person. It's really hard to get a good idea from the renderings alone.

Even Kentucky renderings are trashy, full of jersey wearing slack jawed hillbillies in their mock up.

We embrace our hillbilliness with awesome jamgrass and string bands, homegrown, and funny beards.
However, jersey wearing is one thing we don't do a lot of. If you see a feller wearing a jersey on gameday he's 1) likely mentally challenged, we give back to those less fortunate a lot. 2) brought a kid with him that's also wearing a jersey 3) some bible humper that just hasn't learned any better.

What I'm saying is that Barnhart has no clue what it takes to compete in the SEC. While the rest of the conference is expanding its stadia, UK is reducing capacity by 10%.
His decision is based on his opinion that an "intimate atmosphere" is needed. He never consulted with the fans. He's an arrogant prick who makes more bad decisions (Phillips and Gillispie, for example) than good ones like Calipari.

That's a strawman if I've ever seen one. We have zero reason to be expanding right now. Zero. If you don't like Barnhart, fine. I don't either. I don't necessarily have a problem with taking a few seats out if it means renovating/adding luxury boxes. The stadium is in bad need of a facelift. I agree Barnhart doesn't know how to compete in the SEC, but I can't figure out what the renovations have to do with that.

With funding it was basically do you upgrade the "little things" or expand seating. The reason everyone else is expanding is because they've had suites for awhile. I'll take the suites, the recruiting area, and other additions before I would an expansion at this point. And with the infrastructure they were going to have to reduce seating in the meantime.

It's been awhile but I remember receiving a survey asking for feedback regarding the Commonwealth upgrades as well as the later discussed Rupp upgrades.
He has his faults but IMO he has at least learned from his hiring mistakes with the Cal hire and Stoops hires. He helped secure the funding for renovations that previous ADs wouldn't even sniff with our football program. He's got his cons but I have far less to gripe about with him than I did a year ago.

I got the same survey, so obviously there was some fan input involved in the process.

Our definition of the word few must be very different. I see a reduction of 10% in seating capacity as very significant. Especially considering that UK was consistently in the top 25 in attendance during the Brooks years. If that isn't a recruiting tool, then I don't know what is.
We can't make the top 25 now. For me, the reduction in seating capacity negates any positives regarding the renovation.
