Final 4 appearances by SEC team
by Frac the world

And Pete Maravich, Shaq, Chris Jackson, or Ben Simmons didn't contribute a single appearance. What a fricking waste.

AA and POY Pete Maravich made the NIT FinalFour.
AA and POY Shaquille O'Neal won an SEC Title and went to a Sweet 16.
AA and POY Chris Jackson won an SEC Title and made it to a Sweet 16.
SEC FOY Ben Simmons should make NIT.

AA and NBA Hall of famer Bob Pettit led the Tigers to the 1953 Final Four with a team that finished 22–3 overall and 13–0 in conference play.
The 1953–54 Tigers repeated as SEC champions—again finishing undefeated in conference play at 14–0, and at 20–5 overall—and played in the Sweet Sixteen game of the 1954 NCAA Tournament.

Your GOAT Robert Horry didn't make an appearance. What a fricking waste.

Damn, so as much as we suck we've still been to more final fours than these other teams.

Crazy that Alabama has never made it with some of the talent they've had.

They had some tough draws back in the C. M. Newton days. That '76 team that narrowly lost to unbeaten Indiana in Baton Rouge stood a great chance of getting to the Final Four if they'd played in any of the other three regionals. Had they beaten Knight's great team it's very likely they cut down the nets in Philly that year. Wimp had some damn strong teams as well.

Maravich made the NIT final 4 when it meant something fwiw. The NIT champion was typically considered a top 10-15 team back in the day when only 2 dozen teams made the dance.
Hate to say it but neither Shaq or CJ made it past the second round- no Sweet 16's for teams which knocked off the number 1 team's in the land in consecutive regular seasons. (AZ and UNLV)
The Simmons failure to make the dance(if it happens and it's likely to happen at this point) while frustrating, is no where near as big a flop for long-time Tiger fans as those Tiger teams from 90-92 not getting past the second rounds. The '89-'90 team alone had 4 future first round picks including a number one overall. They were good enough to knock off #1 Vegas which eventually won the crown as well as the LMU team which might have won the title had Hank Gathers not died tragically near season's end. Comparing the disappointment of not making the dance to not winning the whole damn thing is apples to oranges. The '91 and '92 teams with Shag were nearly as disappointing as '90. Dale's post-season magic of the '80's never carried over to the '90's.

Yeah I thought 'NCAA second round' was the Sweet 16, but it was actually 'The round of 32'.
Still they won games in the Tourney.

The one Georgia appearance, they were beat in 83, by the cardiac Wolfpack of NC State.
IIRC, the Georgia game for State was the only one they weren't behind and had to foul a bunch in order to win the game.
