While I agree with your post, Finebaum is smart as hell marketing wise. Books, appearances, radio and cushy ESPN job. He's simply found a niche a less likable Lee Corso/Bill Walton/Kenny Mayne stitck.

he was not hired for his X and O's. That should be obvious about now. He was hired because of his Brad Pitt good lookds. Duh.

I watch SECNetwork for the live games. Otherwise it's a disaster because it's Finebaum for hours at a time. The guy provides no entertainment and no insight.

when he interviews the Mike Slives of the world he has some great interviews. He does have a lot of powerful people in the sports world who come on his shows.

"He brought a fairly large audience..."? The local radio affiliate here in BR shut him down this past Aug for one. But I assume you are referencing more bama and to a lesser extent, AU fans, as it is their callers who seemingly get through the most often & the easiest. As for his knowledge, suffice to say he claims that Glen Guilbeaux, LSU's Finebaum wannabe, is the most informed LSU beat writer in the state. Take away his bama predictions & his predictions are in the low 30-40 percentile.

Finebaum is not a football, technical X and O's guy and never has been which is why they have him paired up on gameday with those who actually know something like Tebow and Marcus Spears.

How in God's name did he land an ESPN gig?

because he knows how to draw in ratings. I don't think he's ever been confused with an analyst. He's a journalist that made his mark trolling the state of Alabama's football fans.

That's because he didn't. Paul has said that sarcastically and only dumbass rednecks believed him.
