Film Room Live Replay - How does Finebaum have any credibility?

They're replaying the "film room" on the SEC network from the Michigan St game.

It has been apparent to me for years that Finebaum knows absolutely nothing about football. Booger, Opie, and Pinkel all contribute. Finebaum just looks like he's ready to get back to Whoville.

How in God's name did he land an ESPN gig?

If Jim from Tuscaloosa is entertaining for you--I'm the dumb arse?

He brought a fairly large audience to the brand new SEC network

Finebaum doesn't know anything about football. His area of "expertise" is talking about the politics of the sport but if you really follow him, you'd know he's really nothing special in that regard either. Finebaum rides the wave of one daily topic to the next. He just knows how to stir redneck callers. That is how he got popular in the first place. He knew Bama fans were so easy to troll and he could just sit back while Bama-AU callers duked it out on his show. To that end, he's really being used by the SECN as comic relief. He's becoming the jester instead of a legit analyst.

During the first half of the film room show, the score is 0-0 and he's saying "This is shaping up to be just like the Ohio State game last year." The guy is an idiot.

He was probably felt a little relief and job security when Les was retained. I think he could bring the funny on a SEC show or Gameday or something like that.

Why would anyone want to listen to Finebaum breakdown game film?

If Finebaum discovers a fire he throws gas on it. If Finebaum finds a bucket of shite he stirs that crap up and feeds it to his gump fans. They eat it up.

He played football in high school and was recruited to play football in college until some injury kept him from doing so. He has long said his life-long dream was to play football for the Bear.

It's about ratings, not skill or talent.

It's really funny, or sad, that you believe that....but let's assume for the moment that is all true, have you ever heard someone ask him an Xs and Os question? He quickly pivots or gives some vague answer. The guy knows very little about football.

Who are you to question his football IQ? He's one of football's all-time great players IMO.

Commentators say that all the time tho' because they want you to stay tuned (IIRC Mack said it when TCU was down by a zillion to Oregon). That's their job.

However, Finebaum is mainly there to stir the pot and drive ratings which something he does well. Folks tune in just to bitch about him and boy does he have plenty that do that. That said, the one thing I will say is that he does have is good guests/interviews and he can actually be pretty good at that aspect if you can ignore the smart arse and/or off the wall commentary in other aspects.

In a perfect world, Finebaum wouldn't be doing as much but the SECN is new.

This.

I don't listen to him a ton, maybe 10 minutes a week. But I can tell when a caller who hasn't listened very long is on the line, because they ask him what he thinks about a certain game. His answers always pivot away from it, akin to a politician answering a debate question.

His knowledge of the game is closer to that of a boll weevil than mine.

I enjoyed Pinkel though, he gave a nice perspective on things. I get tired of general game discussion from today's color analysts. He was a nice change.

They should have a call in show hosted by Finebaum on Saturday night after all the games are played. It would be gold. Can you imagine the lulz after the Alabama L5U game this season?
