Very UGA of us. See Dooley, Goff, and Richt.

Except he was our first choice, we weren't turned down by multiple coaches first.

So he's a first year coach with a first year QB and we have lost to the two teams on our schedule more talented than us.

Yep - like I said above, I meant it as a positive.

I thought they played really well on Saturday. Much better than I thought they would. They got overwhelmed by ole miss, it happens. Kirby had his QB, that's a huge win right there in today's sec. He just needs to get a really good recruiting class or two the way saban did in 08 and 09. He did a good job of getting that team up to play after a blowout and without their best player.

It was always going to be a gamble to hire a Saban DC to run a program as big as UGA. We all know Saban pulls those puppet strings.

BOOM!

EXACTLY what happened in Saban's first year at Alabama.

When did Tennessee last hire an assistant with zero HC experience? Fulmer was the last and he had at least been an interim HC and had been at TEnnessee for years. Before him Johnny Majors had 9 years of HC experience. And Fulmer won a national title and a ton of games so that kinda worked out for them. Kiffin and Dooley both had HC experience and so did Jones. Now if you want to get into how good a hire those guys were, that's a different argument

Well, I was a little surprised by the hire, but I'm not surprised they aren't an East contender this year. If you're starting over and trying to change the culture somewhere, it's going to be hard to simultaneously win the harder games on your schedule (and sometimes the easier ones). While Saban took over for a guy that had just gone 6-6 and not 9-3, it's obvious Smart is trying to make some major changes to the system there. You've got to get some of the dead weight out of the program before it's really going to take off. We had some talented players that made our program better for having graduated and/or transferred.

Now, is he going to be Saban, ever? No, but who has been in the history of college football? Maybe two or three guys.

So, a brand new head coach that has never been a head coach is feeling his way around in his 1st year as a head coach.

Wow.

I'm by no means an expert on assistant to head coaches predictor as I thought that Boom and Strong would both be rally good coaches only to prove me completely wrong on them. In time they may become good coaches, but as of right now, they just aren't.

After 5 games I don't think anyone can criticize Smart. It wouldn't be unprecedented to have players rebel on a new coaching style.
Look at Saban's 1st year at Bama. Most of the older players absolutely quit on him. They couldn't handle a coach being tough on them and having higher expectations.

It's a worthless blurb just trying to get something out there just in case Kirby fails and he can go back and say "see, I told you"

Nope. I think every loss that year was by a touchdown or less (even La. Monroe ).

If you read my post, I was responding to the claim that UGA's upper-classmen being to Richt-ified to buy in to the system.

Noted.

This is the SEC Rant, we can criticize after 0.0 games.

Coach O came in and cut practices short, and the players all agreed that they weren't as worn out by game time.

It just goes to show, you never know. Sometimes you think you know, but you don't know.

Sounds damn near identical to Bama's 07 season. We had a lot of upperclassmen hating Saban. What happened? ULM and a 7-6 season. When they were gone the following season, we were a quarter away from an SEC Championship, and won it the following year.

He seems to be recruiting well. So I'm not going to read anything into this season.

Feldman sounds like a bunch of talk without saying anything. Not sure what to keep an eye on. Nothing of substance was said.
