The OP probably would have been better with a different introduction but I know your intent was not intended to troll.
The podcast does a good job of examining catastrophes, similarly to Mentor Pilot. My preference is Mentor Pilot but that is more specific to my past.
Anyway, this should be moved to the OT to reduce troll issues.

I am not familiar with mental pilot, but a similar channel that I find interesting that focuses on hiking catastrophes is "Kyle Hates Hiking"

Yeah, I’m with you and am curious if it will get to be a big deal again once A&M and you guys start playing again. I’d like to go see it. I have enjoyed my visits to College Station. I still don’t understand how their band keeps from constantly running into each other. People on here make fun of Aggies for their traditions, but my kid is happy there and thriving. I think the traditions at A&M probably help make it feel like a much smaller school than 70k.

I've been once, and as much as I make fun of A&M on here for their traditions, I admit that it was one of the top college football visiting stadium experiences for me. Fans were friendly and the band was pretty cool.

A&M is an easy choice, you either fit or you don't.. not a lot of middle ground. Ideal for those that are conservative and like the smaller town Texas feel.
The Ags in my family tree all came from rural areas and either joined the military or raise livestock. Texas grads were raised urban/suburban and entrepreneurs or big corp types.

Sounds like my kid. Got into both, but felt more comfortable in College Station versus Austin. And tbh, as a parent, I feel more comfortable with College Station versus Austin. We currently live in a town that is still somewhat of a rural town (Lucas) that is 5 minutes from a northern Dallas suburb (Allen). So, kind of goes along with how you described your family.

I'm not trolling.
I watched the video, and it's the most information I've ever learned on the matter. Terrible tragedy, and sadly enough for those who like traditions, an example of something that would never be allowed to develop in today's world- and why.

That’s a WIDE brush, and somewhat of a trope these days.
Is there still an element of that? Sure. Even 30 years ago, though, I would have ascribed the perception of this as being more a function of “pretentious” vs “less so”. Aggies just tend to take themselves and thing less seriously than students at Texas.
The perpetuation of Aggie jokes has always fed that, but the differences in the schools are much more cultural and personal than any specific objective factor. Plenty of city slickers at A&M, and plenty of baws at Texas.
Not saying your characterization is wrong. I just think it gets overstated sometimes.

To your point, I'm 24 miles from you and have never heard of Lucas. Google searched and that's a good spot, hopefully the yo yo's in life don't invade and ruin it anytime soon.

We personally know over a dozen sip parents that sent their kid to A&M over Texas due to how insanely liberal Austin and TU has become
