For any wondering,

Va Tech never possessed the ball, so Penalty occurred before they possessed it.

Penalty gave Arkansas a 1st down.

Commentators are morons.

So it wasn't an inadvertent whistle?

There was.

In advertent whistle still stops the play.....and since Va Tech never possessed the ball the penalty gives Arkansas the 1st down.

Thats why we got the ball at the other end of the field instead of where it was fumbled.

Incorrect. The possessed it when the ball hit the punters foot

Holding when a punt is in the air does not give the kicking team a first down

Did no one notice they brought the ball back to the original line of scrimmage and and then moved it up 10 yards?

The commentators are talking about a rule that allows them to grant possession to a team that clearly recovers the ball immedietely after an inadvertent whistle, in which case it would be VT ball.

Bert, Refs, and Replay disagree with you.

I'm honestly too drunk to believe there is any potential scenario that would award us the ball.

I hope we score 1 more TD because karma will give these pseudo turkeys 30 points in the 2nd half.

They are idiots and have no clue.

My explanation is what occurred, now if they interpreted the rule right or wrong is another argument.

But it was not ruled a fumble or we would have had the ball on the other end of the field.

Belk Bowl doesn't get the A-Team refs.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it. Wild play and wild 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do about it.

That argument relies on the assumption that the team receiving the punt either won't touch the ball or won't muff it. You can't just assume that.

Tech never had possession, and in fact they muffed the punt and it was a live ball when the whistle blew.

That rule pertains to fumbles. There was no fumble on this play.

The inadvertent whistle during a muffed punt along with a penalty it what makes it confusing.

Until someone can find the rule addressing that we are just guessing.
