TLDR: I am butthurt, pissed, and enjoying a beverage.

Soo....

Player A QB uses something "OTC", which nobody knows exactly what that is EXCEPT what the NCAA says "PEDSSSSS!!!!". Knowing what it is, exactly what substance, would clear a lot of this up!!!!!

If Player A plays, this team is at a "advantage" over the other team.

vs.

Player B QB gets arrested trying to avoid DUI checkpoint and gets hit with OVI. Suspended only 1 game, and allowed to return without any consequences.

Putting people's lives at risk? Yet being only suspended 1 game.

This is considered not a competitive advantage?

Pretty simple. If you're using PEDs you're cheating and it falls under NCAA rules. DUI or avoiding a checkpoint is a criminal matter and does not fall under the NCAA.

On the field unfair advantage vs. criminal offense.

I know which one falls under the purview of the NCAA. Do you?

One directly effects your performance and a competitive edge. And the reason most supplements are banned is because athletes regularly use them to mask steroid use (it's why certain levels of caffeine and green tea is also restricted).

The DUI doesn't directly affect performance. It's an off the field matter that isn't governed by the NCAA. And I've seen players suspended for more than one game for it, but that's neither here nor there.

Quite simply, PEDs is one of the easiest rules to avoid breaking. It's simple. Don't take anything your training staff or coaching staff doesn't approve.

Personally I think Griers suspension is fricking ridiculous.

Don't worry, Grier will get back next year in time to play well & not make a difference for the team. UF will already have a loss or two so your NC dreams will go bye bye. But hey, you could still win the East!!

I am sorry, but is it anywhere official what he was actually using?

Are we sure this about some over the counter thing?

I think it is nuts you can get DUI and only miss a game, but that is a legal and coaching matter, not NCAA.

Nope. That's what they'd have us believe but there's never been anything released on what it was and Grier isn't talking. MacElwain passed around a sheet of paper with all the banned substances on it at the presser and kept saying that reporters could look at the sheet and see what all was banned.

PEDs are a red line. They will -- quite simply -- destroy your health. Like serious heart, liver, kidney damage. These kids cannot be in a situation where it's even borderline if it's worth it to get caught. If it was only a one game suspension, steroids would be rampant and kids would feel pressure to cheat and endanger their future health.

The zero tolerance, one-year suspension is warranted. It's simple. Don't use them. They're 100x more harmful than weed or a few beers. It's not even comparable.

PEDs give you a competitive physical advantage in their eyes..

A DUI is idiotic, but it's not giving you an unfair playing advantage during the games..

Taurus...actually our schedule in 2016 is a lot better for us than this years. We play LSU, Mizzou, USC and UK at home, with only UT, Vandy & Arkie on the road in SEC play. 11-1 sounds right and we will be winning the east again. Alls good, but we appreciate your concern.

Shouldnt you be more concerned about Ohio State and their matchup with the green monster?

The NCAA is all about some zero tolerance on PEDs. A Bama player, Todd Bates was suspended for a year back in the Coach Fran era. Before he ever missed a game, the substance he was suspended for, a GNC supplement, was removed from the banned list. He appealed, and the 1 year stayed. Even though the substance wasn't considered a PED anymore. When I heard all the positivity RE Grier's appeal, I thought of Bates.
