Torbush was always behind the 8ball with Franchione sinking the ship.

I agree. Torbush did not want to leave Alabama, but had no sense of job security staying there. When Franchione bailed like a coward, Torbush actually met with the team to say his final goodbyes.

Mullen didnt fire him... He left MSU to accept the DC job at Kansas...

Make no mistake -- He was run out of town at MSU. Just because Mullen didn't "fire" him doesn't mean that he had the option to come back.

We were a terrible defense under Torbush in 2009 -- after the defense had been pretty salty under Ellis Johnson for a few years -- and went right back salty under Manny Diaz.

With the knowledge and hindsight of how talented that 09 defense was, Torbush's tenure at MSU was a total failure. 9 players with NFL careers in that two-deep(8 draftees and Love)...including a linebacker corps to kill for...

I agree... Just addressing the fact that he wasn't fired... When MSU played AU on the Plains that season i remember he was lining up in 3 and sometimes 2 man fronts when it was obvious the Tigers were going to run the football... I think his defense gave up 6 or 7 TDs that night... A talented defense too... Torbush's best days are definitely behind him.

What does ETSU expect to gain by rejoining the watered down Southern Conference? If your going to play football again, you need to have both feet in or both feet out. Nobody wants to watch Southern Conference football. ETSU should join either the MAC or the Sunbelt. Otherwise, the fan support will wither like it did before.

The Southern Conference is FCS, rather than FBS. Right now, ETSU doesn't have the money or meet the NCAA criteria to participate in the FBS.

I thought he sucked. He was the BAMA D-Coordinator 2001/02. His D was on the field the day Josh Reed and LSU set the single game receiving record. 2001 was a disaster for BAMA football. In a five game stretch his defense went 1 -4 giving up 37 to USCe in a loss, 27 to Ole Miss in a loss, 35 to Tenn in a loss and 35 to LSU in a loss. The first game of the year the next season his defense gave up 34 points to Middle Tenn in a 5 point win.

Carl's read and react defenses at UNC were a failure until Mack forced Carl to employ a press defense after the 1995 season. UNC had great defenses 1996-98 (with great personnel). Horrible head coach who was way over his head as the CEO of a program. Nickname: NASCARL.

Nice guy though.
