The irony here is I fully expect ESPN to pick us 3rd or 4th in the East this year.

Well when you allow one team to rush for over 400+ yards in the SEC title game one year, and then get blown out by 29 points the next, you tend to start getting overlooked.

545 yards Gump! When dick riding, you have to do it right.

Mizzou has benefitted from the being in garbage divisions dating back to their BIG12 days. Beat one of the top 2-3 teams in the conference (overall) more than once a decade, and you'll get some respect.

This argument is so stupid because as soon as a team loses to us that automatically means they are no longer a top 2 or 3 team. So as long as we continue to win the east, this same old argument can be made, unless/until we actually win the SECCG.

I concur... Nothing like being overlooked, I hope Mizzou has a long history of being overlooked...

ESPN hates the SEC except for the money the mouse gets to pocket.

Generally when ESPN speaks, I do not listen.

That's because they have a history of playing 4 cupcakes followed by a bye week before they actually play anyone. I think that hurts them immensely in terms of respect/gaining media steam and/or hype during the season. The first 4-5 weeks are typically when teams start to show their identity and capture the media's attention but no one really cares if you beat the hell out of a cupcake. And it's easy to forget all about them when they often don't play a game anyone will watch until week 5 or 6.

Mizzou has also yet to beat an SEC team with a winning conference record and that hurts as well even though it's not their fault that a lot of SEC teams on their schedule have been down. And I firmly believe the media would be more prone to show some love if Mizzou's brand was more established.

Finally, they need a MUCH better PR guy. A team with a similar record would get a hell of a lot more respect in my opinion and a good PR guy can change perceptions. For a university that has a great journalism school, Mizzou isn't good at promoting its accomplishments on the gridiron.

Mizzou has taken advantage of the two true Big Dogs in the SEC- Florida and Tennessee- being down, Mark Richt being the coach at UGA, and Spurrier not being able to recruit consistently top rated players to South Carolina.

Mizzou has taken advantage of recruiting and developing (mostly) overlooked talent and fielding good football teams. Nothing less

No doubt. Pinkel is a good coach. But whenever Florida and Tennessee and back, Mizzou will be fighting for 3rd or 4th in the East with UGA and not for trips to Atlanta
