It's football religion has no place in sports broadcasting

I don't think it was part of the sport's broadcast, just a commercial for a Children's Hospital owned and operated by a religious organization.

Why, because it is intelligent?

Nope.

I will apologize for being a massive sinner though.

I think it's silly that they wouldn't air it, because they are concerned over this one line: "We celebrate the birth of Jesus and the season of giving, bringing hope to the many children, parents and families that we serve."

Come on, if that offends you, you need help. ESPN has an oversensitive policy and it won't hurt anything to air an ad for a children's hospital.

You think this way, I am sure, because you are Christian. I don't mind it either.

But let's take another example. Let's say Allah was mentioned, in lieu of Jesus. How many nutsos do you predict would be offended and boycotting ESPN?

Tear it up on Saturday night, and sweat out the booze on Sunday morning.

I like it.

Yes.

And the message was something like "donate and save the children" or some such, and "we celebrate the birth of Jesus."

If that offends you, don' send them any money. Their advertising dollars were wasted on YOU.

Exactly. I mean, ultimately I don't care. ESPN certainly has the right to choose not to air it, but being so PC as to be worried about airing that ad is ridiculous.

Our society is being trained to search for things to pretend to be offended about.

ESPN pushed publicly for Florida in 2006, LSU in 2007, Florida in 08...and Bama in 2011 and even this year for Iron Bowl II...

I don't know about the other schools, but ESPN did not push for Florida in 2006. Many of their personalities were openly against it and constantly talking about the need for a rematch between OSU and UM.

And what did they have to push in 2008? There was never any question UF would be in it.

Then, I probably would not donate a single penny. Problem solved for smart folks that can separate and ignore the devil-worshiping/terrorist message.

That is a very real problem for ESPN. It's much easier to accept that 90% of its viewers are mouth-breathing fricktards, and just NOT air an advertisement that said pooh-flingers would not understand or ignore, than to get some money for the ad and lose tons of viewers.

MAKE NO MISTAKE!!! ESPN made BOTH decisions based on the one God that governs all: MONEY!!!

Probably quite a few. I wouldn't be one of them, but quite a few. But Islam has a much different history with this country in the last 20 years than Christianity does. I'm not saying their reactions would be correct, but this equivalence you're trying to make is false.

A Christian holiday is the most widely celebrated holiday in America, even among non-Christians. I can respect that ESPN is trying to be all 'we don't want to promote any particular religion,' but it's not like this is two minutes of Tim Tebow trying to proselytize and get people to pray. It's one line in an ad for a children's hospital and isn't that big of a deal.

But what if ESPN decided to just remove some innocuous and harmless reference to Allah just in the favor of being neutral? Would you be up in arms about them being PC and shite like that?

And it really isn't that big of a deal that they removed it either...

No, but I'm not up in arms about this decision by ESPN either. This thread was the first I heard about.

My guess on his response (with which I agree):

I would still say frick ESPN and continue watching.

I think WDE24 is quite a reasonable poster on this topic.

He's a fricktard on everything else, though.
