I would have guessed CFB is slightly ahead of MLB, but no one in the NE/Mid Atlantic gives two fricks about CFB and they all love MLB, so it isn't surprising.
College basketball really isn't that big outside of a few states, all of which are pretty rural.

1985 NFL 24%, MLB 23%
2012 NFL 34%, MLB 16%
I wonder what happened, marketing? Steroid scandal? 94/95 strike?

I would blame player movement. I have no empirical evidence to support that though.

I'm guessing this thread is about the poor attendance at the regional. Well, until Alabama is back to playing like the days of the Jim Wells era, that will be the case. There hasn't been a lot of excitement around the program since 2006.
Next, I'll assume some Alabama fans are trying to play off the rantards by saying "baseball sucks". I will never understand those that don't want an all-around athletic program. Alabama can, and should, have a complete athletic department.

Why would I go to a regional in Tallahassee when I wouldn't even go to a super regional in Tuscaloosa?

I would like to know how many SEC fans traveled to their regionals they didn't host. But I will admit, I would have liked to have seen more than a couple-hundred people in the seats.

Could be. I was a much bigger NFL fan before free agency. Maybe the franchise player tag allows for some normalcy.

Gawd knows ya'll got the money for it. It will be interesting to see what hires AD Battle makes.

It has really hurt MLB. The small market teams like KC and Pittsburgh have been struggling for a long time. They just can't fend off the Yankees and Red Sox of the world once their elite young talent hits free agency.

I'm a Braves fan. Look at what they've been through since the 1990s ended. It has been pretty average. They're not small market, but they can't complete financially with New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.

I remember when Pittsburgh and Cincinnati had great teams for a long period of time. I don't know how it quite works but MLB doesn't have quite the 'socialist' financial structure the NFL has, which hurts it.

We are hurt by terrible ownership and the worst TV deal in pro sports. But yeah you need to spend over 100 million to keep your talent these days.

Bill Battle will do wonderful things for the "other sports". He's going to run a complete athletic program. His background in business is perfect for what many alumni want to see for Alabama athletics.
Now if some of the "sidewalks" can get over his backing of Roy Kramer for the playoff committee, he'll be able to do the job he was hired to do. Listening to the masses is what got Alabama in trouble in the years after Gene Stallings.

He replaced Wendell Hudson which was a good first impression. Now he needs to get rid of Grant and get us a new baseball stadium.

Why would people be upset with Kramer on the selection committee? If one guy could be pointed out for the SEC being what it is today, it's Kramer.

Battle doesn't need a new hire in baseball, we need a new facility and thankfully he seems committed to getting one.
