But it only takes 2 - 3 hours to get across the country so you don't have to eat in that time span and can go enjoy fine dining in your destination of choice.

You just do not understand. On the train you had 2 or 3 days of travel time. It was like 2 - 3 days of cross county parties with lots of eating and f*cking along the way. They may have called them "sleeper" cars but not much sleeping going on when I was young. Nobody talks in airports or planes anymore so no chance for awesome travel sex.

My wife and I took a train to NOLA last year where we caught our cruise ship from there. I only wish AmTrak had a line that ran from coast to coast. You can only get as far as NOLA down here, but I wish they had a rail that rain at least to Dallas and then maybe up into Vegas.

Hell, Vegas has no trains connecting to anywhere. I've got 2,600+ jumps but my wife hates to fly so it makes for some inventive vacations at times. I have to drug her almost comatose when we go to Europe ... and that's one thing I am not doing again, taking a slow boat to Italy, never again.

The greatest invention was ended in the 70's when the auto train stopped running. You goy on, they loaded your car in a separate car. Train had sleeper cars, dining car, and an observation car. hell of a way to travel in comfort and style. When you got to south Florida you got off the train and you had your car to drive in Florida. It was magical indeed.
