I'm almost positive he did it because he thought it would get him more time.

For a UVA graduate, Dooley sure comes across as a stupid frick.

It wasn't a bad hire...it was a "stupid" hire. You don't go changing defensive scheme in a make or break year. Yes, he is Dooley's downfall, but its Dooley's fault for bringing him in.

Wait. I thought UT administration refused to re-new the coordinators contracts trying to be cute last year. So they left. Dooley had to hire a new one.

If Wilcox was still there this a 10 win UT team. Bama would have been the only for sure loss.

Why did Wilcox leave?

Why so many assistants jump ship?

Answer that and you will know who's to blame.

Hart? I've heard Sal was Dave's pick. I can't say for sure, but Wilcox was one of the best young up and coming defensive minds and I'm sure Dooley would've loved to retain him.

Dooley is a decent coach, but he needs an all-star staff at UT to have success. He will get another year if they go on to beat Mizzou, UK, and Vandy. The Vandy game will be tough.

They left to get off the sinking ship. Had nothing to do with their contracts, outside of Baggett.

FWIW, I've heard from some people that Dooley really and truly did want Randy Shannon as defensive coordinator and that perhaps Dave Hart forced his hand and wanted Sunseri brought in.

Heard the exact opposite. Dooley wanted Sal

Hart wanted Shannon, Dooley was afraid Shannon would take his job at some point. Sal was Dooley's idea.

I doubt he coaches those games.

I've been saying this for a while. I think they will run the table (albeit Vandy will be tough), and they finish 7-5 and likely go to the Chick-Fil-A bowl. I don't think they fire him at that point, nor should they.

This derpfense would make Kiehl Frazier look like a Heisman contender, guaranteed.

Well please just don't fix anything until after the Vandy game, that's all I ask...

Dooley is pure shite and retaining him would indicate that Tennessee isn't really trying anymore.

Dooley was the 6th choice when TN hired him. The Vols were in a huge hurry to make a hire before national signing day to ensure a good recruiting haul. Well, they got their man. He hasn't won anywhere he has been, kinda like Chizik...

You guys reallyyyyyyyy need some cover corners, a good safety, etc. Made Connor Shaw look like he can actually throw the ball.

This. I don't know if Sal is as bad as the defense looks but there are several high school teams in Texas and Florida that this secondary would struggle with.

Scheme, coaching, and motivation are definitely factors in determing success.

What most delusional Vol fans fail to realize is that there is not a single player on the defensive side of the ball that will get drafted. The talent deficiency is too much to overcome at this point.
