No. He caoched for decades. He didn't kill anyone or anything like that. The game passed him and he called it a day and left. Would rather see legends do that instead of staying around so long they have to be fired or shoved to the street to get them out.

I just think he realized it was impossible to win at SC and finally got fed up.

I've said it in other thread, quitting because your team is losing is a bad legacy to leave and will/should taint his legacy.

Meh. When they write Spurrier's obit the circumstances of his exit from SC won't even make the final draft.

Of course it does. We don't have this conversation if he retired after 2013. Or even after 2014.

The only benefit to him stepping aside mid-season was that he have Elliott a chance to show what he could do. And Elliott will be a good head coach for someone in the near future.

Steve let his kids and his friends rot the program from the inside. That is an even worse black eye than the way he resigned.

So, we can agree that Spurrier failed to match the Bear's SEC win record as well as knowing when, and how, to exit gracefully with your legacy intact.

He could have done it better, but ran when the going got tough.

His legacy will take the biggest hit as younger generations age and his personality is forgotten. His big time on the field accomplishments really stopped after Florida tbh.

Did it take one when he left his NFL job suddenly?
