I guess that 10-2 season he had at Bama was a fluke eh?
Les Miles regularly wins ten games.

In time, Bama would have been good under Shula.

I don't think so. He had too much loyalty to his coaches, expecially line coaches. Those guys weren't getting it done, and Shula wouldn't replace them. Moore told him he should make some changes and Shula basically flipped him off. Maybe Shula wouldn't have been so cocky if he knew Saban was looking for a job.

Saban is winning with Shula's players. Can't have it both ways, gumpies.

Hope he wins the NC with em. That would also mean Shula > recruiter than Miles.

You are correct. We are talking about Alabama not MSU. Our expectations are higher.

Absolutely not. Does Saban deserve credit for LSU's turnaround this decade? Absolutely.

Arenas is all shula. Without him Bama doesnt go 12-0 this yr. I still think they would have won the sec. Regardless of the outcome of the LSU game.

Yeah, obviously. He picked the program up off the floor and went 10-2 in 2005. It's pretty clear that Saban would have never even come to Bama had Shula not improved the situation there.

His offense in 2006 was pretty bad, and so he had to go. But if you're judging him not by individual wins or losses, but for what he did for the potential of the program, you'd be crazy not to give him credit. 14 of Bama's 22 starters were signed under him I think.

Why do people keep saying this? It's completely irrelevant to the actual issue.

Just like people saying les wouldnt have had 3 strait 10 win seasons if it were not for saban. Well, we hired Les because of saban leaving if that's what people mean, but Les still got the results. frick, saban wouldn't have won 10 games with the disaster that happened in 05. I do not believe his style of coaching would have pulled those players through. He is still a better coach, but he is never coming back. I also believe we still have a shot at the west next season.

The main thing that turned Bama fans against Mike is Don.

Shula deserves credit for recruiting good players and keeping Bama out of trouble with the NCAA on his watch. The textbook thing is total bullshite and it wasn't the football coach's responsibility to monitor what players did with their books so I don't blame Shula for that.

No. /thread

Just as Saban doesn't deserve credit for the LSU 2007 NC, Shula doesn't deserve any credit if we win it this year.

Of course he does. Just like Bill Curry deserves the recruiting credit for the 1992 team.

But ask any bammer if Curry could recruit and guess what their answer will be.

They are by far the lowest, sorriest fan base in all of college football. This will be proven as soon as Saban has a bad year or two.
