That's true.I can't see him lasting 16 more years, but definitely not that length of time at Bama.

I think he'd like to get 6 at Bama but that 4th is getting tough to get.

I think the expectation that puts the most pressure on him is his own drive for perfection. It is harder to live with that internal pressure than with the fan pressure.

Coach Bryant was under "fan" pressure in 1970. He went on his program and told the watchers that he and Mary Harmon would decide when he was going to retire. He passed away 8 months after retiring.

He may coach a long time. I cannot see him fishing and playing golf and going to the coffee shop with other old men.

Yes Jacknola I agree, But I don't see him living 16 years with his personality. However, if expectations are not met which is inevitable at some point Bama will run him out. FSU and Penn State basically owed Bowden and Paterno their history much like Beamer at VA Tech. Alabama does not.

He's won 4 in his last 10 college seasons. Almost the same %.

Florida is an easier place to coach, but the expectations there are also insane. You've got the largest fair-weather fanbase in America and the coach has to keep them happy.

True. Having a rival gift wrap us a win every year definitely takes the pressure off though so Florida and Bama have that going for them

To correct a poster above: Bryant died only 2 months after his last game.

Saban is a process oriented coach - Bryant was a charismatic motivater, a General, a symbolic bigger than life Icon. Saban is a guru but he isn't bigger than life and he doesn't appear to feel the stress of Tide fans extremely high expectations.

Saban's a cold blooded killer who doesn't care what anyone thinks. He's the perfect kind of coach to handle the ungodly pressure at Tidaltown.

I've taken shits that are smarter than you. Don't be mad at me because gator fans are world renowned pieces of shite that nobody likes.

I wish I could uppercut your entire fanbase into a pit of spikes, Mortal Kombat style, and then pee on their mangled corpses.

dude lashes out all the time. saban seems to feel the stress at every stop he makes coaching. however, i think that stress is what keeps him going and his obsession with perfection is one of the things that makes him great at what he does. but don't pretend like he isn't bothered by the stress of the job. he very clearly is, but that doesn't mean it affects his job in a negative way. however, a human being can only live like that for so long, and i highly doubt saban is able to do this for 10+ more years. i've always thought his goal was to catch bryant and retire. we'll see

He might, but he will shrink and continue to get shorter as he gets older. After winning his last natty he will be forced to hold the trophy over his head just to hand it off to one of the Bama players. He will eventually retire out of frustration after unsuccessfully lobbying the NCAA regarding the use of sideline stepladders. He will then hop into his Mercedes and drive off into the sunset while sitting on two cases of Coca-Cola.

I just don't see Saban doing anything but coaching. He'll be just like Bear and Paterno. They pass away soon after retirement. Just as Spurrier. Saban isn't going to try the NFL again either. He failed because of the politics and it's only gotten worse. He's not starting over at a different school.

He's right--I count 4 national titles in 8 college seasons of coaching between his time spent at LSU and Bama:

Season #1 (2003) - WON his first national title (at LSU)
Season #2 (2004) - didn't win a national title (at LSU)
Season #3 (2007) - didn't win a national title (at Bama)
Season #4 (2008) - didn't win a national title (at Bama)
Season #5 (2009) - WON his second national title (at Bama)
Season #6 (2010) - didn't win a national title (at Bama)
Season #7 (2011) - WON his third national title (at Bama)
Season #8 (2012) - WON his fourth national title (at Bama)

No, he'll be 64 in Oct. Can't see him coaching anywhere much longer. He might go another 5 years but that may be stretch. Certainly not to 80.
