You mean old school coaches? Thought this was interesting from Ivan Maisel's 3 Point Stance on the 18th.

LINK

1. The Football Rules Committee long has been a battleground for coaches, and sometimes the battles rage for years. The late David Nelson, the editor of the NCAA Football Rules Book from more than 30 years, called the period from 1952 to 1965 “The Substitution Wars.” The committee went back and forth over whether the game should be played by 11 men playing both ways or by 22. Unlimited substitution won out, and old-school coaches would be appalled by the number of players used today.

No team runs HUNH every down, it is impossible. As well all good teams vary tempos from slow to fast depending on game situations. So lets cut the crap you guys aren't doing anything innovative. You are simply catching defenses in situations and not letting them substitute. That is all. If you guys want to play 11 on 11 then lets go back to Iron Man, otherwise you guys are just using a loophole in a rule to mask your talent deficiencies.

So both pro and anti HUNH sides are advocating policy to advance their philosophy. I would rather it be known my program was running a pro style offense than the one John Q Public High School and their youth programs are running every week.

So much jealousy / arrogance in this post.

Tell Saban to innovate and stop it. Until then he's no GOAT.

It is easy to expect less from you Auburn fans but lets stop with the cute stuff. This rule is precisely to stop the cheap snapping the ball when teams are running guys off on 3rd down type plays. That is really all it is about.

It also about protecting NCAA from suits of injured players and keeping the replay officials in the game since they HU offenses are snapping the ball before a play can be reviewed.

There is nothing to even hint at the fact that a fast-paced offense causes more injuries than a smash-mouth style of play. Nothing.

I bet you are thankful to Muschamp for giving you another excuse to hang onto - the officials. Yeah, that's the ticket. It's a lot about safety, but uh, mostly keeping the old ways of playing football and uhhhh oh yeah officials have a hard time with hurry up offenses.

How many bammers wish now that saben had just manned up and tried to defend all kind of offenses instead of calling all this negative attention to himself. It's so tiresome defending him all the time.

Its so funny to see you self righteous Auburn fans over this. Again you guys must not remember Tuberville's rule against Saban visiting kids in Spring so he could duck hunt.

First I never said that but if I'm a lawyer and I see a player who gets his NFL career destroyed by being exhausted and not coming off the field, then I'm suing the NCAA for causing it.

But you are saying that getting hit 100 times doesn't suggest more chance of getting hurt verses 50 times? That just flies in the face of logic.

Saban was against the hurry up years before the TAM and Auburn games. You might want to get your facts straight first.

what is the difference between hurrying up to the line and snapping the ball fast and hard counting to draw someone offsides on 3rd or 4th down?

Tuberville's rule against Saban visiting kids in Spring

Sounds good until you mention the fact that he was visiting one kid and "bumping into" kids for whom it was an NCAA violation to visit. The rule was to keep saben from doing what most other coaches had the integrity to do anyway - avoid the players that were off limits. So sad that a rule had to be implemented just to keep him from gaining an extra visit.

Did Tuberville sneak that rule change before the committee? I honestly don't remember how it came about, but it was important enough for a rule to be formed.

Now it's time for a rule to keep saben from oversigning by 10 or more and giving them "medical redshirts" most of which are bogus. He gives them at a rate of 10:1 over all other SEC schools. Looks like there are some unsafe practices going on over there.

Again the rule isn't about player safety at all it is maintaining the integrity of what makes American football distinct from Rugby or Soccer the system of downs and specialized players.

YEAH!!!!
I'm with you dude.
American football needs to go back to its roots; go back to what made it great.
Get rid of those damn plastic helmets and return to the glory of leather. Face masks? FACE MASKS? Who needs them? What is it with players going just one way? Dump about 1/2 of the schollys and make the players go both ways. And get rid of kicking specialists.
That will get futbawl back to the glory days.

No and only someone looking to over complicate the issue would consider this. The 10 sec rule simply allows the defense a small about of time to make substitutions, otherwise the offense can quick-snap the ball and easily catch the defense with too many players on the field.

The overused word "melt" is pulled out by people who have nothing to back up their opinions and no logical contribution to the conversation. They think that is the ultimate insult but instead just indicates to others, "I'm stupid and can't think of an answer."

No more tampa melting today so enjoy bursting with pride over that coach of yours.

Where is he anyway?

Good answer. But tampajoe isn't really looking for an answer; he's looking for a shoulder to cry on.
